DALLAS, TX - Flower Mound HS defeated Marcus HS 7-3 in the opening game of the third round of the Texas High School Baseball Playoffs. With two schools that sit less than four miles from each other, the hype had been building all week for this winner-take-all rivalry series.
2018 RHP Caleb Burgess took a no-hitter into the 4th inning on Thursday night, keeping the Marcus offense off the board early, and allowing the Jags to hold a 4-0 lead.
Flower Mound scored two in the second off a couple of Marcus errors and a Dylan Antonelli RBI single. The Jag’s got two more in the third when Austin Wallace and Cade Thomas each drove in a run. 2017 2B Cade Thomas, a Cisco JC recruit, emerged as the leading hitter for the Jag’s, going 4-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored, along with a stolen base.
2017 SS Jimmy Glowenke, a DBU recruit, not only broke up the no-hitter in the fourth with a double to left-center for Marcus, he also drove in a run in the fifth to get his team within striking distance, 5-3. But that was as close as the Marauders would get, because the Flower Mound bullpen was not allowing any comebacks last night.
Coach Wallace went to 2017 RHP Ryan Johnston in the fifth, and shutdown closer 2017 RHP Eric Jones for the sixth and seventh. Neither Johnston or Jones allowed a run and Flower Mound went on to win 7-3. Putting them one game closer to advancing in the Texas High School Baseball Playoff. These two teams will play again today at 5:00 at DBU.
