PROSPER, TX - The McKinney Lions jumped out to an early lead in a win-or-go-home game two of the first round playoff matchup with Flower Mound. The Jags won game one on Friday 6-0, and The Lions were leaving nothing to chance with their season on the line.
After a walk and a catcher’s-interference call, McKinney’s three hole hitter, Wilson Galvan blasted a three-run home run to left field. McKinney 3, Flower Mound 0. The Lions were in the driver’s seat after they added another run in the top of the fourth, but Flower Mound would not go quietly. The Jag’s chipped away at the lead with two runs in the bottom of the fourth as Austin Wallace drove in a run.
The fifth inning would prove to be the deciding factor in the game. Syler Shepherd led off with a double, and after a walk and a pop up, Austin Wallace hammered a double off the right field wall, driving in Shepherd. Carson Bradley drove in run on a slash-single to left field, then Cade Thomas drove in two runs. Three hitters later, Lance Russell added the seventh run in Flower Mounds comeback. Eric Jones closed out the bottom of the seventh, sending the Jag’s to the second round of the Texas High School Playoffs. Final score, Flower Mound 7, McKinney 4.
