Florida ProCase Preview: RHP Connor Manning
May 27, 2020
The PBR ProCase has been a staple of the Prep Baseball Report's pro coverage over the last 17 years. The event has become one of the more high-powered pro showcases in the state and has seen multiple high draft picks in year’s past. There have been four players drafted in the top five rounds of the MLB Draft to have attended the Florida ProCase in previous years. The biggest of them all was Mason Denaburg, who was taken in the 1st round of the 2018 draft by the Washington Nationals. Another ProCase alum was Freddy Tarnok. He was selected by the Atlanta Braves in the 3rd round of the 2017 draft. Sam McMillan attended the first Florida ProCase in 2016. He was selected in the 5th round of the 2017 draft by the Detroit Tigers. And just last year, Tyler Callihan was selected in the 3rd round of the 2019 draft by the Cincinnati Reds.
The 2020 Florida ProCase will take place Friday, May 29th at Jackie Robinson Ballpark in Daytona, Florida. The event will feature a pro-style workout followed by simulated gameplay that we will be broadcasting live on Twitter. Continuing today, we will be spotlighting some of the players that will be in attendance at the 2020 Florida ProCase.

Next up is 2021 RHP Connor Manning (Elite Squad Academy). Connor has a strong 6-foot-3, 210 pound frame with a fastball in the upper 80’s. He was a standout at the UCF Underclass Games last summer. He went on to commit to USF shortly after that event. Manning ranks No. 123 in the PBR Florida Class of 2021 rankings.

Scouting Report
Athletic and strong frame at 6-foot-2, 195 pounds. Throws from the 3/4 arm slot with average arm speed with fastball ranged from 79-82 in his first inning and 82-86 mph in his second. Slider 70-72 and late sharp break with near fastball arm speed, changeup at 76-71 with near fastball arm speed and sink. Has lowered the arm slot and was inconsistent early. Made an adjustment the second inning in which he threw more strikes. Short arm action and easy effort with some rhythm and stays in line with delivery to home.
08/25/18- 6-foot-2, 190 pounds, he has present strength in his frame. While the velocity was a bit down at 81-82 mph, he has some heaviness on the fastball and has natural cut. He also showed a feel for both a 76-77 mph changeup and a 72-74 mph curveball. Overall, will be an arm to follow.
8.12.17 - The young right-hander has a simple, repeatable delivery. He does slide from one side of the rubber to the other, but is balanced and lads in line. He has a clean, high 3/4 arm action and showed a fastball ranging from 72-77 mph. Also showed a curveball ranging from 60-62 mph. Will continue to make strides as he gets older, stronger and learns how to use his lower half and get extension. Offensively, the right handed hitter uses a leg kick load and hands pre-set. Creates some steepness, but also finds the barrel. Will improve as he gets level through the zone and continues to add strength to his lower half.
