The 2017 Major League Draft takes place June 12-14. In advance of the draft, Prep Baseball Report is posting a summary of each state in the coverage area with scouting reports on the top high school draft prospects.

The 2017 class is highlighted by its depth of talent, but not high-end, potential first-round talent. The 2016 Draft saw LHP Cole Ragans (North Florida Christian School, FL) as the only high school player taken in the first round from Florida. The state has had a high schooler go in the first round every year since 1995. This year, Florida is led by four shortstops and a catcher who could all sneak in the back of the first round, but aspects of each could also keep them out of it.

13. Chris Seise, SS, West Orange HS, FL
A Central Florida recruit, Seise’s tools came together this spring and he vaulted up draft boards. He plays solid defense up the middle with a quick first step, soft hands and strong arm across the diamond. He shows easy, athletic actions with enough range and arm to stay at shortstop. Offensively, Seise’s tools have always been impressive. He runs a 4.0-4.1 down the line consistently and his swing has been noticeably shorter through the zone with less swing and miss. He is balanced with a strong lower half and power potential from gap to gap.
