Yesterday the Fall Prospect Program went to University of Arkansas Monticello. Teams competed in a 9 inning contest and went through a full offensive evaluation prior to their game, including exit velocity. Here is a look at some of the highlights and exit velocity from the first session which featured Team Maroon and Team Black
Team Black won 11-5, early on the game was dominated by Team Blacks pitching staff who combined for 16 strike outs in the first 6 innings of the contest. Offensively they took advantage of errors and walks to jump out to an early lead. Offensively they received a big day from 2016 MIF Harrison Rutledge who had 3 hits including two triples.
Here is a short breakdown on some of the pitchers who stood out.
2018 Cameron Johnson, RHP, Maumelle Charter HS
Johnson is a 5-foot-11 160-pound right hander with an athletic frame and a thin build. He worked from a H ¾ arm slot with a loose arm. He pounded the strike zone with a fatsball of 78-80 mph with late arm side run. He used his 11/5 curveball thrown at 67-69 mph as he strike out pitch. It was ver effective as he struck out 5 in 2 innings of work.
2019 Hayden Vines, RHP, Cabot HS
Vines is a 6-foot 160-pound right hander with an athletic frame and a lanky build. He showed an advanced feel to pitch pounding the strike zone in his two innings of work while striking out three. He pitches from a ¾ arm slot with a loose quick arm. He pitched 78-80 mph with late sink. He threw his curveball 67-69 mph with late break. Overall Vines projects to throw harder and has a feel for his breaking ball. He is a definite follow in the 2019 class.
