Leading up to the start of the junior college season, we will preview each team in the state. These previews are thanks to the coaches at each program along with information our staff has gathered.

Team: Lake-Sumter State College
2020 Record: 16-11
Head Coach: Rich Billings
Returning Starters: 3

TOP PLAYERS

Ian Thornton - 1B, Fr., 6'2, 200 lbs. L/R - Ian is one of the best hitters we've had here at LSSC.  He can hit the ball with power to all fields and will hit in the middle of our lineup.  He's an extremely tough out.

Seth Wysocki - RHP, R. Fr., 6'3, 190 lbs., L/R - Fastball is 86-88 with some late life.  Throws a swing and miss changeup and commands a breaking ball as well.  Will probably be our number one this spring.

Matthew Taubensee - LHP, Fr., 6'5, 240 lbs., L/L - 83-85 fastball but really knows how to pitch.  Was one of our best arms this fall.  Has good feel for three pitches and pounds the zone.

Gabe Dorsey - Util., R. So., 5'10, 170 lbs., R/R - Does it all.  Plays mostly outfield for us but has caught, played every infield position and pitched.  He's 87-89 off the mound. Hits in the middle of our lineup and has some bat speed.  Plus arm from the outfield and runs well.  Last year hit .300 with 8 doubles, 2 HR's, and 23 RBI's.

X-FACTOR

Naphis Llanos, INF, R. Fr., 5'8, 165 lbs., S/R - Undersized but a very talented player. Makes every play on defense and knows how to handle the bat.  Shows a little pop from both sides for a smaller player. Hit .364 in 2020 with 18 RBI's.  Led the team in hits with 36.

OUTLOOK

When asked, coach Billings said  "We have a chance to be really good offensively and on the base paths.  While we may not hit a ton of homeruns we have some guys that can handle the bat and run the bases. Our starting pitching will also be competitive.  Our bullpen will be the question mark.  If they can throw strikes and keep the ball in the ballpark we are good enough defensively to pick up the slack."
