HOUSTON, TX - The Episcopal Eagles offense put up thirteen runs in the first inning en route to a 24-0 victory over Second Baptist Monday night. The Eagles tallied 13 hits in four innings, 9 of which were for extra bases, 3 of those were Grand Slam Home Runs.
Shortstop Trei Cruz, a Rice recuit, led off the game with a double, then after an infield single and walk, starting pitcher Peter Geib would send a shot to deep center field for a grand slam home run, putting the Knights up 4-0. Later in the first, after two walks and a hit batter, Bennett Inoff, a Texas recruit, would hit another grand slam for Episcopal, putting the Knights up 13-0 heading into the bottom of the first.
Geib, who also got the start for the Eagles, would work two innings, needing only 15 pitches to earn the win, retiring all six batters he faced.
The Eagles were not done as we headed to the second inning, they put up four more runs, two of which came off the bat of a Michael Podsednik triple to right field. In the fourth inning, freshman Tanner Witt would leave the yard to left-center for Episcopal’s third grand slam of the game. Right-hander Luke Anderson would work the final two innings for the eagles, giving up no runs on one hit, two walks and four strikeouts.
