The Prep Baseball Report Prospect ID Showcase on June 20th at Edwardsville HS featured prospects from Illinois and Missouri. There were many players who emerged as prospects to pay close attention to, and we will for sure be following them through the summer and into next season.

Here we break down the pitchers and two-way players:

Nick Allgeyer, LHP/OF, Vianney, Class of 2014:
Allgeyer has a long, projectable body that should translate well at the next level as he continues to mature physically. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound left-hander took good routes to the ball in the outfield, consistently staying behind the ball and keeping his momentum toward his target. He has a long loose arm and played through the ball with accurate throws (78 mph) to third and home. At the plate, the left-handed hitter is quite in the box with little wasted movement. He takes an economical bat path to the ball, bringing his hands through the zone with level extension through contact that produced line drives. On the mound, the lefty comes from a ¾ arm slot and showed feel for three pitches; a 75-77 mph (topping out at 78 mph), a 66 mph breaking ball with two plane break, and a 72-73 mph change up with some late sink. Look for a spike in velocity as Allgeyer continues to progress.

Dalton Archer, RHP/OF, Edwardsville HS, Class of 2014:
Archer is a wiry 6-foot-1, 150-pound two way player. On the mound, Archer showed a top fastball of 71 mph, with some arm side run. He also threw a 61-64 mph breaking ball and a 62-65 mph change up. In the outfield, Archer showed good efforts in getting to the ball, with aggressive routes. Offensively, he has a balanced approach with a short swing that produced line drives to the opposite field. He also showed some speed, running a 7.23 60.

Sean Clarkson, OF/RHP, Edwardsville HS, Class of 2015:
In the outfield, the 5-foot-6, 130-pound Clarkson took fundamental routes and played through the ball with controlled body movements and accurate throws (65 mph) to third base and home. At the plate, Clarkson showed the ability to show consistent contact. On the mound, Clarkson throws three pitches, a 71 mph fastball that was kept down in the zone, a 11-to-5 breaking ball (62-65 mph), and perhaps is best pitch, a 63-65 mph change up with some sink.

Grant Geppert, Highland HS, Class of 2015:
Geppert is a wiry 6-foot-1, 150-pound player who showed some ability and could become a top level Class of 2015 player as he continues to mature. On the mound, Geppard showed good hand speed with a loose arm coming from a ¾ arm slot with good rhythm. His fastball sat 76-77, topping at 78 and was consistently over the plate. He also flashed a 64-66 mph late moving breaking ball with 11-to-5 shape with fastball arm speed and a 69-72 mph change up that had arm side movement and was kept down in the zone. In the outfield, Geppert got to the ball quickly and had a quick transfer and quick arm action, getting the ball out of his hand quickly with his top throw at 80 mph. Offensively, the left handed hitter was able to square up the ball with a level swing, using both gaps. He ran a 7.29 60.

Andrew Givens, SS/RHP Glendale HS, Class of 2014:
Givens is a two-way athlete who excelled on the mound and at shortstop.  At shortstop, Givens shows the ability of stay in front of the ball, field out in front, and field with two hands. He has a short, quick, accurate arm across the infield (73 mph).  At the plate, Givens has good rhythm and takes an economical route to the ball with a short, compact swing spraying the ball to all fields. On the mound, Givens’ best pitch was a 66-68 mph change up that at times had arm side movement and other times showing glove side movement, either way it moved, it was thrown down in the zone and for a strike. He also has a 75-77 mph fastball that had some arm side run and a gradual 12-to-6 breaking ball.

Andrew Jackson, RHP/SS, Jacksonville HS, Class of 2013
Jackson is a 6-foot-1, 166-pound right-handed pitcher who showed the ability to throw strikes. Coming from a low ¾ arm slot angle, Jackson has a loose arm and works with little effort. Jackson impressed with his 63-67 mph curveball, as it had depth and two-plane break. His fastball topped out at 80 mph and showed occasional arm side sink.  At shortstop, Jackson showed to be a sure handed fielder who showed some range and an accurate arm to first base (71 mph). At the plate, Jackson has an uphill bat path and showed the ability to make consistent contact.

Brenden Kauhl, RHP, Highland HS, Class of 2014:
The 5-foot-9, 190-pound right-hander operated from a ¾ arm slot with good rhythm throughout. Kauhl displayed a clean arm action and showcased a fastball that sat at 73-75 mph. He additionally displayed some feel for his breaking ball (64-66 mph) with fastball arm speed and 12-to-6 shape. While not overpowering, Kauhl was able to throw his pitches for strikes.

Anthony Kindle, OF/RHP, Edwardsville HS, Class of 2015:
Kindle is an undersized 5-foot-6, 130-pound two-way player. On the mound, Kindle’s fastball sat 73-75 mph with slight arm side run. He also threw a 56-58 mph breaking ball with 11-to-5 shape, and perhaps his best pitch, a 63-65 changeup with arm side run and late sink. In the outfield, Kindle took good routes to the ball with good body control and clean glove to hand transfer. Offensively, he has a balanced set up with a short stride and smooth load. Kindle has a level swing that consistently put the ball in play.

Alex Lay, RHP, Edwardsville HS, Class of 2013:
On the mound, Lay comes from a ¾ arm slot has good rhythm while showing a 72-75 mph fastball. He also showed a 12-to-6 breaking ball (67-68 mph) down in the zone and a 71 mph change up with some sink.

Evan McClintock, RHP/3B, Riverton HS, Class of 2013:
McClintock is a strong bodied 6-foot-1, 200-pound two way player who impressed in all facets of the game.  His fastball sat in the 80-81 mph range and was kept down in the zone and repeatedly thrown for a strike. He also showed good arm speed on his off speed pitches, an 11-to-5 breaking ball (63-66) with late break and a 60-64 mph knuckleball. As a third baseman, McClintock flashed a confident glove with fundamental fielding mechanics, range to his forehand and back hand side, and a strong arm across the diamond (78 mph). Offensively, McClintock has a slightly open stance with good bat speed and a powerful swing that drove the ball gap to gap. McClintock has potential to be a power hitter.

Austin Southmayd, LHP, Francis Howell, Class of 2013:
Southmayd is a lanky 6-foot, 155-pound left hand pitcher who has smooth mechanics, a long loose arm, and a deceptive delivery that looks to be very effective against both right and left handed hitters. Southmayd threw all three of his pitches for strikes. His fastball sat 77-81, topping at 82 with late cutting action. Southmayd also impressed with a heavy, late moving 1-to-7 breaking ball that showed good two-plane movement.  He also threw a 76-78 mph change up down with arm side runs and some depth. As Southmayd’s body continues to fill out, he should see a spike in velocity.

Taylor Staff, LHP, Pleasant Plains HS, Class of 2013:
Staff features a lanky 6-foot-2, 180-pound frame and showed feel for all three of his pitches.  He operates from a ¾ arm slot and delivered fastballs in the 72-75 mph range with some arm side run. He also demonstrated the ability to command his curveball, in the 62-63 mph range, and a changeup that had glove side movement and in the 56-59 mph range.

Jacob Trueb, RHP, Edwardsville HS, Class of 2014:
The 6-foot, 180-pound right-handed pitcher Trueb comes from a ¾ arm slot and showed the ability to throw three pitches. His fastball was 75-77 mph, topping at 78 mph, and at times has arm side run. He also showed feel for his off speed pitches with fastball arm action. His breaking ball had 12-to-6 shape (62-64 mph) and change up was down in the zone with some depth at 68-69 mph). Trueb has strong legs, and with some more use of them, could see a spike in velocity and more movement on his pitchers.

Zach Vahle, RHP/SS, Quincy Notre Dame HS, Class of 2014:
Vahle is a athletic 5-foot-11, 150-pound two way player who showed well on the mound, in the field, and at the plate.  On the mound, Vahle comes from a ¾ arm slot with a quick arm and had a top fastball of 79 mph that had some arm side run and was consistently thrown for a strike. He also flashed an 11-to-5 breaking ball that was down in the zone. His breaking ball had near fastball arm speed and showed a 11-to-5 shape with early break. Vahle also threw a 69-70 mph change up with side arm side movement and sink.  As a shortstop, he showed sure hands and with a quick transfer and played through the ball with some arm strength (77 mph). Offensively, Vahle has a balanced set up with a long, uphill swing that found the ball and showed the ability to put the ball in play.
