Eastern PA Open ID Showcase (Session 2): Infielder Analysis

Teddy BallgameThe final Open ID Showcase of January a number of quality infield prospects that showed well. Following is an analysis of all the infielders at the Eastern PA Open ID Showcase (Session 2).

2B/SS Ted Williams, Meadville HS, Class of 2014
Williams was the most impressive middle infield prospect at the event. The smooth fielding junior showed soft hands, a clean exchange and precise angles to the baseball. Williams showcased the top infield arm of the day at 84 mph across the diamond. The 5-foot-8, 140-pound left-handed hitter had a very solid round of batting practice. The 2013 Midwest Future Games participant displayed a fluid swing with good lower half rotation to consistently square the baseball to all fields.

grezeszakSS/RHP A.J. Grezeszak, LaSalle College HS, Class of 2015
Grezeszak was one of the most impressive infielders at the event. He flashed soft hands, athletic actions and good range during his defensive workout. The 5-foot-11, 160-pound sophomore showcased good carry on throws of 81 mph across the infield. Grezeszak also had a solid round of batting practice displaying the ability to be a consistent line drive hitter who will hit for average.

C/3B Christian Porterfield, West Middlesex HS, Class of 2014
Porterfield had one of the best days of all position players at the event. The 2012 Midwest Future Games participant had the top bat exit velocity of the day at 96 mph and was tied for the best infield arm of the day at 84 mph. Porterfield used his top exit velocity to repeatedly drive baseballs during a very solid round of batting practice. Porterfield has a very basic swing with few parts to it. He is a hitter that should be able to replicate his swing for extended periods of time without going into prolonged slumps. At 5-foot-11, 200-pounds he has the size to be a middle of the order run producer at the next level.

SS Miguel Torres, J.P. McCaskey HS, Class of 2014
Torres displayed raw athletic ability and a big upside. The 5-foot-11, 165-pound SS showed good feet and athletic actions during defensive evaluations. He showcased a strong arm at 80 mph across the infield and very good range. Offensively the switch hitter showcased an 80 mph bat exit velocity from the right side and some pop in his bat. Torres will have to continue to work from the left side to be able to have equal success. With his ability to run a sub 6.70 60-yard dash, Torres is a prospect to watch in the Class of 2014.

2B/SS Jake Nevin, Council Rock South, Class of 2014
Nevin was impressive in all facets of the game and easily one of the top position players at the event. He showcased athletic actions and good range in the infield. The 5-foot-9, 150-pound junior showed good carry on throws of 76 mph across the infield. Offensively, Nevin had one of the top rounds of batting practice at the event. He showed good rhythm throughout his swing, staying inside the baseball and hitting the ball to all fields. He squared the baseball consistently and displayed some gap power potential.

RHP/3B Nate Dickey, Central Dauphin HS, Class of 2014
Dickey showed very well in all facets of the game. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound junior showcased good range and athletic movements in the infield. He had good carry on throws of 78 mph across the diamond. Offensively, Dickey hits from a slightly closed stance, but does a good job of getting his hips cleared allowing his hands to work. He utilized an 80 mph bat exit velocity to consistently square the baseball to all fields.

1B/3B Zach Craven, McKeesport HS, Class of 2014
Craven has been a regular at PBR events since our initial event in June of 2012. He has impressed at every stop and continues to work to get better. Craven showed an improved arm across the infield at 77 mph to go along with good footwork and soft hands around first base. Offensively he used a strong lower half and good hands to square baseballs regularly to all fields. Craven is an extremely hard worker and should continue to see improvements in all facets of his game.

RHP/3B John Catchmark, Governor Mifflin HS, Class of 2015
Catchmark was impressive in all facets of the game. He showed a strong arm with good carry across the infield at 77 mph. He also displayed athletic actions and soft hands with good range. Catchmark had a very solid 85 mph bat exit velocity that he put to good used during one of the top rounds of batting practice on the day. He showcased a short stroke and good lower half actions that allowed for consistent squaring of the baseball to all fields.

3B/1B Matt Kaiser, Pennsbury HS, Class of 2014
Kaiser is a 5-foot-11, 195-pound junior who showed a clean exchange and the ability to play through the baseball. Kaiser showed some carry to throws of 75 mph across the infield. Offensively, Kaiser creates good barrel whip and excellent extension through the hitting zone. He used an 86 mph bat exit velocity to consistently drive baseballs while showing the potential for some power.

2B/SS Ryan Erskine, North Penn HS, Class of 2013
Erskine showed well in all facets of the game. He showed an accurate arm with good carry across the infield on throws of 75 mph. The 5-foot-10, 165-pound unsigned senior hits from a slightly open stance and squared nearly every pitch during a solid round of batting practice. He has a fluid swing and stays on plane through the hitting zone which allowed him to consistently hit line drives to all fields.

C/1B Jack Seibert, Holy Ghost Prep HS, Class of 2014
Seibert had a solid day in all facets of the game. He showcased sound glovework and a 78 mph arm across the infield from 1B. Seibert also took a solid round of batting practice squaring the baseball consistently. He displayed a 79 mph bat exit speed and some power potential.

SS/2B Nate Fassnacht, Ephrata HS, Class of 2016
Fassnacht has shown steady progress in all facets of the game since we first saw him in June of 2012. The 5-foot-7, 140-pound SS showcased soft hands and the ability to play through the baseball on throws of 77 mph across the diamond. The switch-hitter displayed a 77 mph bat exit velocity and squared the baseball consistently from both sides of the plate. He showed better bat speed and pop from the right side of the plate, but his left-handed swing continues to progress as well.

1B/LHP Austin Krammes, Blue Mountain HS, Class of 2015
Krammes has a projectable frame and showed athletic actions around the bag during his defensive workout at first base. He displayed a 73 mph throwing arm across the infield. Krammes had a solid round of batting practice. He used his long levers to create good barrel whip and a 74 mph bat exit velocity.

2B/RHP Owen Goryl, Pope John Paul II, Class of 2015
Goryl showcased a 66 mph arm across the infield and 74 mph bat exit velocity. The 6-foot, 165-pound sophomore had a solid round of batting practice hitting out of a slight crouch. He showed a short swing path and an strong lower half that allowed him to consistently square the baseball.

3B/2B Tre Reigle, Hershey HS, Class of 2014
Reigle showcased good range and an accurate arm on 71 mph throws across the diamond. The 5-foot-8, 145-pound junior used a square stance and a 78 mph bat exit velocity to square most pitches during his round of batting practice. Reigle demonstrated the potential to be a solid high school hitter.

SS/2B Cristian Viera, J.P. McCaskey HS, Class of 2017
Viera showcased the ability to play through the baseball and displayed a clean exchange on throws of 68 mph across the infield. The 5-foot-6, 145-pound switch-hitter used a flat swing path to consistently square the baseball from both sides of the plate. He showed a 74 mph bat exit velocity and some signs of power potential in the future.

OF/1B Angel Rivera, J.P. McCaskey HS, Class of 2015
Rivera showcased a 63 mph across the infield. The 5-foot-7, 165-pound lefty showed soft hands around the first base bag and the ability to make all of the plays. Offensively, Rivera showed a fluid swing and allowed his hands to work. He showed the ability to square the baseball consistently with a bat exit velocity of 69 mph.

2B/SS Ben Decembrino, Holy Ghost Prep HS, Class of 2015
Decembrino showcased a clean exchange and some range during his defensive evaluation. The 5-foot-7, 135-pound sophomore displayed accurate throws of 68 mph across the diamond. Offensively, he showed the ability to stay inside the baseball producing line drives with a 67 mph bat exit velocity to all fields.
