Eastern Massachusetts Preview: 2017 Player Evaluations

Top Position Prospect

Top Pitching Prospect

Individual Player Evlauations

Aidan McLaughlin, C, Xaverian HS, 2017

6-foot-1, 165-pound high level prospect with a frame that is ideal for the position. He shows a clean arm path and good feet behind the plate. Aidan's arm strength is mid-70s now but he has a good transfer, showing a 2.00 pop time. At the plate, Aidan shows a clean bat path with a wide based set up. He needs added strength but the barrel is felt in the zone and he should be a gap-to-gap hitter. His exit velocity is 79 now and should improve with weight work.

Dan Remie, IF Barnstable HS, 2017

5-foot-10, 140-pound prospect. Dan is a good athlete who ran a 7.19 and showed a 72 mph arm across the diamond. His glove and feet worked nicely in the infield and he showed signs of prep steps and approach. At the plate, Dan's bat is very quickly in and out of the strike zone. Needs to flatten the bat through the zone and let his hands work the barrel as he gets stronger. Dan does have hand speed, showing an 80 mph exit velocity so with some adjustments and strengths Dan could develop nicely.

David Fisher, RHP/3B, Malden Catholic HS, 2017

5-foot-11, 180-pound two-way player who showed an exit velocity of 72 mph with a clean bat path. David ran an 8.12 and threw a 79 mph ball across the infield. On the mound, he showed a bunch of effort in a high slot while touching 79 with his fastball and spinning a breaking ball at 65. His changeup was a plus pitch for at 71 with nice action to it out of that high slot. There is deception to his delivery as he shows his back to the hitter.

Jason Couto, RHP, Dighton-Rehoboth HS, 2017

5-foot-10, 185-pound right-handed arm who showed a compact delivery with a clean and long arm swing. Jason topped at 71 with his fastball and spun a breaking ball at 60. The changeup has good action to it at 65 mph. Jason showed a quick move to the plate at 1.18. There is a jump in velocity when he adjusts to throwing the top half of the ball.

Malcolm Mitchell, IF, St.John’s Prep, 2017

5-foot-6, 140-pound athlete with a ton of life in his hands. He swung the bat nicely and showed bat head whip. Malcolm's exit velocity was 74 but should improve once he gets his bottom half more under control. Could be a good two hole guy. His glove and feet work in the field while showcasing a 72 mph arm across the infield. He ran a 7.90, of course that will have to improve.

Matt Tabor, SS/RHP, Milton Academy, 2017

5-foot-10, 150-pound good looking shortstop. Matt showed an above average glove with plus arm speed. Needs to quicken up the transfer and work on his 60 time to make the leap into the higher levels. His bat works but is short on strength right now. He is a good looking prospect for sure.

Michael DiBari, RHP, Bridgewater-Rayham HS, 2017

6-foot-3, 150-pound prospect. Michael showed very well for himself. His delivery is clean and his posture is outstanding. Michael's arm works nicely and is free. Sat 78-80 on the fastball with a breaking pitch at 68 mph, that was slurvy. The changeup needs a tweaking but he has plenty of innings to get to clean that up. Also showed a quick move to home at 1.03.

Ryan Mahoney, 1B, Winchester HS, 2017

5-foot-8, 170-pound prospect. Ryan ran a 7.83 and threw 65 mph from the field. His feet were good around the bag and he showed a feel for playing the position. At the plate, Ryan showed an uphill swing that he cut off right after contact. Hands work but needs to loosen them up and let them work for him. Exit velocity was 74.

Trevor Ham, 1B/3B, North Andover HS, 2017

6-foot-2, 215-pound prospect. Trevor ran a 7.90 and threw 71 across the infield. Showed good feet around the bag at first and a good transfer on his feeds to second. At the plate, Trevor is a bit long with his swing and needs to loosen up his hands and arms to let the barrel work for him. Does have strength and leverage in his swing, with an 82 mph bat head speed.

Eastern Massachusetts Preview: 2018 Player Evaluations

Top Position Prospect

Top Pitching Prospect

Individual Player Evlauations

Alex Pappas, IF, Algonquin HS, 2018

6-foot, 160-pound prospect. Alex ran a 7.90 but that should improve as he grows. His glove and footwork in the infield worked well, showing a 69 mph arm across the diamond. His throws have carry and are accurate. Set up at the plate is even based and he shows looseness to his swing with a flat path. With physical strength he should be a gap-to-gap player. Exit velocity was 73 but should jump significantly in a year.

Drew Courtwright, RHP, Algonquin HS, 2018

5-foot-8, 170-pound prospect. Drew showed a clean arm path with a good feel for repeating his delivery. Fastball has some arm-side run to it and he topped out at 69. The spin on his breaking pitch dotted up so he is on the right path while sitting 57 mph. Changeup had good rotation and at 61 mph he has time to develop. In time, he should stay healthy and follow along nicely with good development .

Ryan Courtwright, IF/OF, Algonquin HS, 2018

5-foot-8, 175-pound prospect. He showed a good glove and threw 65 across the infield. Left-handed swing that is loose and is flat at contact. He could be a high level left-handed hitter as he gets older. Ryan did show the ability to stay on the ball as well. Ran a 9.00 60-yard dash. As long as he progresses normally positionally, he should be a good left-handed hitting prospect.

Tommy Lieberman, SS/RHP, Wellesley HS, 2018

5-foot-8, 160-pound good looking athlete with a solid glove and footwork. Arm velocity is 69 mph and he has more arm strength in there. At the plate, the exit velocity was an impressive 82 mph. His bat is long and flat, with time it should shorten down and be a formidable swing. On the mound, he shows a long arm swing with a fastball at 73. Fastball has some action and his breaking ball was 65 mph. Changeup is 68 mph and has the right rotation. Does need to stay close on the bottom half so he can stay connected top to bottom.

Zach Zides, LHP/OF, Worcester Academy, 2018

5-foot-5, 105-pound prospect. In the outfield, approached the ball confidently and with the right footwork. Velocity from the outfield was 69 mph. Zach ran a 7.90 60-yard dash. At the plate, he has a big leg kick but his hand path and speed are good. As he grows, his bat speed should make him a good left-handed hitting prospect. Good follow for his age.
