A Georgia native, Doanes is a three year starter for the Mountaineers. At 5-foot-10, 205 pounds he is strong and fast. His top tool is run speed and combines quickness with instincts. During his career at WVU Doanes has stolen 33 bases in 37 attempts. A career .310 hitter, his bat path is long through the zone with a line drive swing and he shows doubles power. A 2020 preseason All-Big 12 selection, Doanes is also known to make defensive web gems with above average range up the middle and fringe arm strength.
