Draft League Spotlight: Jacob Smith
March 24, 2021
Player: Jacob Smith
Position: LHP
School: Wallace State Community College - Hanceville
Originally a Vanderbilt commit, the tall lefty is an imposing figure at 6-foot-7, 220 pounds. He enjoyed a strong start to the 2020 season before the shutdown with a 4-0, 3.38 ERA and 29 strikeouts in 22.1 IP. It's an aggressive, quick arm that works downhill and creates tough matchups for any-sided hitter when he's in the zone. Smith attacks the zone with a fastball that sits comfortably in the upper-80s and can creep into the low-90s at times. He also features two breaking balls, a curveball and a slider. Both possess swing and miss capability. So far this spring he has struck out 33 in 23 IP.
