Draft League Spotlight: Chase Costello
April 27, 2021
Player: Chase Costello
Position: RHP
School: Stetson
A Pompano Beach, Fla. native, Costello spent his first two seasons at Louisiana State, pitching almost exclusively in relief for the Tigers before transferring to Stetson ahead of the 2021 season. Though ineligible to pitch this year, the 6-foot-4, 218-pound right-hander did showcase impressive stuff last fall, touching 97 mph while operating comfortably at 92-95. He pairs his heater with a swing-and-miss changeup and a curveball that he throws with power and depth. And while Costello did struggle to throw strikes with the Tigers (5.4 BB/9 in 21.2 IP), the third-year sophomore’s size and athletic arm action bode well for his development in the pro ranks.
