Draft League Spotlight: Andrew Hoffmann
March 3, 2021
Player: Andrew Hoffmann
Position: RHP
School: Illinois
Now standing 6-foot-5, 220 pounds, the once lanky bodied righty has begun to fill out his long frame. Recently, he added a pause for greater deception and it has removed some fluid athleticism from his delivery, but his stuff remains. His heater tops at 93 mph, mostly sitting 90-92 with spin rates into the 2400s from a high three-quarter slot. His slider is his best pitch, thrown consistently for strikes in the low-80s which allows the pitch to play above average. Another above average offering is his low-spin changeup and he’s also added a curve ball in the past year to complete his four-pitch arsenal. Super competitive, Hoffmann has always performed. As a freshman starter at Oakland University in 2019 he struck out 46 in 56 IP then dominated the Northwoods League that summer, going 8-0 with a 1.08 ERA in 58 IP. During a Covid-shortened 2020 season for John A Logan JC, he went 5-0, 2.08 ERA in 26 IP with seven walks and 46 strikeouts.
