Here is a look at some scores and highlights from the district tournament games around the state on Monday, May 8, 2017.
Elizabethton 9, Sullivan East 8
After Sullivan East rallied for 4 runs in the final two innings and got the first two outs in the bottom of the 7th, the Elizabethton Cyclones pounded out 3 straight singles and a walk-off 3-RBI double by Ethan Eggleston to get the win on Monday afternoon. Corey Russell, Michael Robinson, Evan Carter, and Brodie Adams all had 2 hits and combined for 3 RBIs and 5 runs scored. Nick Johnson, Jesse Carr, and Ryan Wetzel each singled with 2 outs in the bottom of the 7th and scored on Eggleston's double.
Franklin County 2, Lincoln County 1 (10 innings)
After 8 innings of scoreless baseball, both teams managed to scratch out a run in the 9th and the Rebels of Franklin County got a walk-off hit from Kohl Fuller in the bottom of the 10th to get the win. Fuller finished 2-4 with an RBI and Blake Pickett had a hit and drove in the other run. Chris Tyler went 2-4, Hunter Perry tossed 8.2 innings of 3 hit baseball with 6 strikeouts, and Shane Smith earned the W on the mound by tossing the final 1.1 innings in scoreless fashion.
Oakland 5, Siegel 4 (10 innings)
The Oakland Patriots scratched out a run in the top of the 10th inning on an RBI single from Josh McGowan to knock out the defending state champions on Monday night. McGowan and Sebastian Matlock both finished 2-5 and Braden Yeargin had a hit and 2 RBIs. Jacob Pennington earned the W on the mound by dealing the final 4.1 innings and allowing only 1 hit, and 1 walk with 5 strikeouts.
Sevier County 7, South Doyle 4
Seven Smoky Bears combined for 9 hits in Monday's win over South Doyle, as Kaleb Orr and Holt Rader paced the offense by finishing with 2 hits and 2 RBIs apiece. Wyatt Moore and Ben Willcoxon each had a hit and scored 2 runs, while Austin Henry finished with a hit, a run, an RBI, and 3 stolen bases. Orr earned the W on the mound by pitching all 7 innings and striking out 6.
West (Knoxville) 12, Bearden 9
Adam Cupp and Cal Cook powered the Rebel offense to a 5-run top of the 7th and a victory on Monday night, combining to go 5-9 with 3 runs and 9 RBIs. Cupp had a double and Cook finished with both a double and a home run. Roland Ryan hit a home run and scored 2 runs. Ben Skvara earned the W on the mound by tossing a perfect final 2.1 innings.
CAK 8, Kingston 2
Spencer Strider tossed a complete-game gem on Monday to earn another district tournament victory for the Warriors, striking out 15 and allowing only 4 hits on the night. Alex Osborne led the offense, finishing 2-3 with 2 doubles, 2 runs, and 3 RBIs, while Connor Quinn added 2 RBIs of his own. Hudson Chastain finished 2-4 with 2 runs scored.
Cookeville 4, White County 2
The Cavaliers of Cookeville earned the 2-run victory over White County on Monday night, thanks to a 3 hit, 3 RBI performance from A'Darius Pugh. Will Arnett had 2 hits and scored once, while Dylan Sparks had a hit and scored twice. Three pitchers combined to throw 5 innings of scoreless relief, striking out 5 without allowing a run or a hit. Thomas Hammons earned the W and Cody Hutcherson recorded the save.
St, George's 4, Tipton-Rosemark 3 (8 innings)
Graham Sisson scored Larry Hubbard on a walk-off squeeze to give St. George's the district tournament victory over the Rebels on Monday night. Spencer Smith and Nick Bordeau both went 2-3 for the Gryphons and Ben Glass finished with a hit and an RBI. Sisson also earned the W on the mound, dealing the final 2 innings of the game with 4 strikeouts and only 1 unearned run allowed.
Independence 1, Brentwood 0
Sam Molnar hit a solo home run for the Eagles in the top of the 4th inning to record the only run of the game on either side. Robert Hassell had another huge game, finishing 2-3 at the plate and tossing 6 innings of 3-hit baseball on the mound with 14 strikeouts. Matthew Hargrove tallied the save by tossing the final inning in scoreless fashion. Beaux Escobar doubled for the Eagles in the win.
Beech 8, Station Camp 7
The Buccaneers received a huge performance from Ryan Mortensen in their win over Station Camp on Monday night, as he finished 2-3 with a walk, 2 home runs, 2 runs, and 4 RBIs on the night. Drew Robertson also had 2 hits and Haven Mangrum scored twice. Dalton Hall earned the W on the mound by tossing the first 6,1 innings and Seth Marlin recorded the save.
