Here is a look at some scores and highlights from the district tournament games around the state on Sunday, May 7, 2017.
Independence 6, Franklin 5
The top of the Eagles' lineup powered them to a win on Sunday afternoon, as the top 5 hitters in the Independence lineup combined for 11 of their 12 hits and the top 3 hitters scored all 6 runs. Diillan Saunders went 2-4 with a run, Robert Hassell went 2-3 with a double and 2 runs, Sam Molnar went 2-3 with 2 doubles, 3 runs, and 3 RBIs, Shawn Wallwork went 3-4 with a double and an RBI, and Noah Haynie went 2-4 with an RBI. Carson Carroll produced the walk-off single in the bottom of the 7th to score Molnar.
Oakland 1, Smyrna 0 (8 innings)
Luke Vinson dominated the game for the Oakland Patriots on Sunday afternoon, tossing an 8-inning complete-game shutout with 4 strikeouts and finishing 2-3 with the walk-off single to drive in the only run of the game. Zac Lemerand went 2-4 and Dalton Davis scored the winning run.
Ensworth 6, Baylor 5 (8 innings)
Garrett Schultz and Gage Young both went 2-4 and led the Ensworth offense in their Sunday afternoon victory over Baylor. Schultz finished with a double, a run, and 3 RBIs, while Young drove in 2 runs, including the game-winner in the top of the 8th. Schultz also earned the save by tossing a scoreless bottom of the 8th.
Summit 5, Dickson County 0
The Spartans got a complete-game no-hitter from Chris McElvain on Sunday afternoon to help give them a 5-0 win over Dickson County. McElvain struck out 8 and allowed only 1 walk in his 7 innings of work. Reid Peterson, Blake Money, and Davis Jackson all had 2 hits, while Wade Lopiccolo powered the offense by finishing 3-4 with a double, a run, and 3 RBIs.
Riverdale 4, Blackman 0
Kyle Chandler dealt 5 strong innings to earn the W on the mound for the Warriors in their battle with Blackman on Sunday afternoon. Chandler struck out 5 and only allowed 3 hits, while Matt Henning tossed the final 2 innings in scoreless fashion. Sam Braswell and Lee Wexler both went 2-3 and combined to score 3 of the 4 runs. Benjamin Wilson had a hit and finished with 2 RBIs.
