Here is a look at the scores and highlights from every State Tournament game around the Murfreesboro area on Thursday, May 25, 2017.
DIVISION I – A
Peabody 10, Goodpasture 2 (Game 1)
Hunter Hudson put together a strong performance on the mound, tossing all 7 innings and allowing only 4 hits and 1 earned run. Hudson also had a hit and 2 RBIs at the plate. Ethan Richardson went 2-3 with a run and 2 RBIs, while Noah Halbrook, William Woods, and Elijah Hammonds all had 2 hits and combined for 5 runs and 2 RBIs.
Goodpasture 7, Peabody 4 (Game 2)
The Cougars came back in Game 2 to clinch their spot in Friday's championship game. Luke Dotson went 2-3 with a run, Cole Carter went 2-3 with an RBI, Joel Littlepage finished 2-3 with a run and an RBI, and Zach Wallace went 2-3 with 2 runs scored. Wyatt Blessing picked up the W on the mound by throwing the first 5 innings.
Loretto 11, Gordonsville 1
Jacob James tossed a 6-inning no-hitter to send the Mustangs to Friday's state championship game, walking 6 but striking out 5 and allowing 0 earned runs. Ryan Weathers went 3-3 with a double, a home run, 2 runs, and 2 RBIs to lead the offense, while 5 others tallied 2 hits of their own.
DIVISION I – AA
CPA 8, Covington 4 (Game 1)
Seth Townsend and Johnny Dodd both had 2 hits in the game and combined to score 3 runs to help lead the Lion offense. Philip Clarke had a 2-RBI triple and scored a run, while Kane Patterson drove in 2 runs of his own. Tanner Morgan earned the W on the mound, allowing 8 hits and striking out 3 over 6.2 innings.
CPA 5, Covington 1 (Game 2)
Lane Harris stepped up for the Lions, tossing all 7 innings and allowing only 4 hits and 1 run while striking out 5 to garner the W. Cooper Reynolds went 2-3 with a run and 2 RBIs and Johnny Dodd finished 2-3 with 2 runs scored to lead the offense.
CAK 12, Lexington 0
Preston Burleson dealt a complete-game shutout to send the Warriors to Friday's state championship game, striking out 2 and allowing 2 hits through his 7 innings of work. Alex Osborne blew up at the plate, finishing 3-4 with a double, a home run, 2 runs, and 4 RBIs to help power the offense. Hudson Chastain and Cooper Jackson both had 2 hits of their own.
DIVISION I – AAA
Dobyns-Bennett 6, Brentwood 4 (Game 1)
Quentin Polinski went 3-4 with a run and an RBI and Evan Mahaffey hit a 3-run home run in the bottom of the 6th to give the Indians a 6-4 lead that they'd hold onto. Jeremiah Ball earned the W on the mound by tossing the final 2.1 innings without allowing a run and only giving up 3 hits. Parker Hill had a hit and an RBI, as well.
Brentwood 5, Dobyns-Bennett 3 (Game 2)
The Bruins got a 2-RBI triple from Kaden Dreier and a 2-3, 1 run, 2 RBI, performance from Luke Reidy that included a home run. Carson Shacklett went 2-4 with 2 runs scored and Reidy earned the W on the mound by tossing 5 innings of 5-hit baseball, tallying 5 strikeouts.
Stewarts Creek 5, Jefferson County 3 (Game 1 - 8 innings)
Maddox Vondohlen dealt all 8 innings and struck out 4 to earn the victory for Red Hawks. Chase Vondohlen and Austin Steel both went 3-4 with an RBI and Tre Bailliez hit a 2-run bomb to help power the offense.
Stewarts Creek 11, Jefferson County 1 (Game 2)
The Red Hawk offense blew up in Thursday's Game 2, sending them to Friday's state championship game against Brentwood. Austin Steel went 2-3 with 2 home runs, 2 runs scored, and 4 RBIs, while Daniel Freeman finished 3-4 with a home run, 3 runs, and 1 RBI to power the offense. Tre Bailliez went 2-4 with 4 RBIs and Aaron Moriarty tossed all 6 innings, allowing only 1 run on 5 hits and 8 strikeouts.
DIVISION II – A
CHAMPIONSHIP GAME
ECS 9, USJ 1
Riley Watkins and Nathan McMeans combined to go 5-7 with 3 RBIs and 3 runs scored in the Eagles' state championship victory on Thursday afternoon. Keegan Westbrook (1-3) and Josh Rooker (2-4) each drove in 3 runs, while Hunter Childress went 2-2 with 2 runs scored. Westbrook earned the W on the mound, dealing the first 5 innings without allowing a run.
DIVISION II – AA
CHAMPIONSHIP GAME
Brentwood Academy 6, McCallie 5
Griffin Hodge and Conner Woodlee both went 2-4 with a run and an RBI to help lead the Eagles to a tight victory and a state championship on Thursday afternoon. Easton Cline drove in 3 and scored a run of his own, while Alex Reynolds earned the W on the mound. Jack Victory closed it out by getting the final 3 outs in the 7th.
