North Little Rock High School 7 vs West Memphis High School 3
North Little Rock HS beat West Memphis HS 7-3 in a 7A-East match up. The victory gives the Wildcats room to breathe in the race for the state tournament.
West Memphis scored 3 runs in the 1st, with a pair of triples and a walk. MIF Curtis Washington led the game off with a triple to right-center, followed by a walk by MIF Hayden Spears, both runners scored on 2015 MIF/C Cam Smith triple down the right field line. Smith scored on a groundball to short-stop by RHP Gray Fenter.
North Little Rock answered in the bottom of the 1st off a 2017 MIF Reed Shepard single. Shepard stole second, advanced to third on a balk and scored on 2016 Ben Bailey single to right.
Bailey was in the mix again in the third as North Little Rock scratched across 2 runs to tie the game 3-3. Bailey walked to lead off the inning, advanced to second on 2016 RHP/INF Christian Goshen single. Bailey stole second and scored on a wild pitch. Goshen later scored on a groundball to short-stop.
North Little Rock scored 4 in the 4th to take the lead for good. They did the biggest part of their damage via the short game, stealing 3 bags and scoring 2 runs on a squeeze play and an error.
2017 RHP Owen Stuckey picked up the win for the Wildcats pitching 5.3 innings in relief, allowing 0 runs and striking out 7.
2015 RHP Gray Fenter, took the loss for West Memphis, pitching 5 innings, allowing 4 earned runs on 7 hits while striking out 10.
