Crystal Lake Central Handles Palatine

PALATINE, IL - In a matchup of two teams off to surprisingly hot starts, it was visiting Crystal Lake Central (6-2) who came away with a 10-0, 5 inning victory over Palatine (6-3) at Palatine High School Wednesday morning. The Tigers used a six run fifth inning to push the game to mercy rule, and starting pitcher James Mills finished the complete game shutout.
Crystal Lake Central got on the board first in the second inning thanks to a single to center field by 2B Lucas Irwin, scoring CF Dean Mlaka who had leadoff the inning with a walk. The Tigers continued their offensive output into the second inning, tacking on three more runs to extend their lead to 4-0 after three.
Junior SS Will Welder sealed the deal in the fifth inning with a bases clearing double, scoring three runs. RF Camden Nisenson, IPFW commit, and C Alec Bolanowski followed with a hit and RBI of their own. When the dust had settled, Palatine trailed 10-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth. Mills shut the door though, collecting the final nine outs of the game in order. Mills finished with a line of: 5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 3 K, 2 HBP.
Welder, Nisenson and Bolanowski went a collective 8-for-12 on the day, with four doubles, six RBI and four runs scored (Welder: 2-for-4, 2 2B, 3 RBI, 1 R - Nisensen: 3-for-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 2 R - Bolanowski: 3-for-4, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 2 R).
The Palatine offense collected three hits on the day, LF Max Myszka went 1-for-2 with a double, while CF Luke Stoffel and 1B TJ Skelnik, Concordia (WI) commit, managed a single apiece.
