Connecticut Spotlight Game: Danbury vs Fairfield Prep
Fairfield, CT -- In a CIAC Class LL quarterfinal matchup at Fairfield University, #20 seed Danbury defeated #5 seed Fairfield Prep 5-2.
After both teams went scoreless in the first inning, Danbury struck for four runs in the top of the 2nd.
After Nick Gervasio (2017) reached on an error, Brian McCarthy (2017) and Andrew Luis (2017) hit back to back singles. Javon Hernandez (2019) followed with a 2-run single. Brent Jacobellis (2017), then blasted a double to the wall to drive in two more runs.
Fairfield Prep responded with a run in the bottom of the 2nd.
After Telly Colarossi (2017) reached on an error and Patrick Steed (2017) walked, Dan Fallacaro (2018) drove in a run on a groundout.
Prep scored another run in the bottom of the 3rd but left the bases loaded after Will Lucas (2018), Joe Mancini (2018), Chris Rotondo (2017), and Telly Colarossi (2017) hit four consecutive singles.
Danbury scored another run to add to their lead in the top of the 5th on a catcher’s interference with the bases loaded after two walks and a single.
Top Performers
- Javon Hernandez, SS, 2019 - Went 2-4 in this game with 2 RBI’s, a stolen base, and a run scored. A good looking middle infielder who is an above average defender and has very good speed.
- Noah Meeks, LHP, 2017 - Pitched a great game in this one against a very good team. Threw a complete game allowing just one earned run, five hits, and two walks. Also had a good day at the plate going 1-3 with a walk and a run scored. Also stole a base in the game.
- Matt Zaffino, 2B, 2017 - Went 3-4 in this game and made a few good looking defensive plays as well. A very athletic middle infielder who can really swing the bat.
- Will Lucas, SS, 2018 (UConn Commit) - Went 1-3 with a walk and a run scored. Very good defensive player with a strong arm.
- Joe Mancini, 3B/RHP, 2018 (Boston College Commit) - Went 1-4 in this game and made some nice plays at 3B. Also pitched 3 innings and looked good. Allowed just two hits, one walk, and no runs.
