The Kansas City area Prospect ID Showacse at the Yard in Lee’s Summit yielded some impressive performances on the mound, at the plate and in the field. LHP Jeremy Mansur ( right) from Ray-Pec took honors as the top over all player, with a dominating performance during the live BP portion of the event, keeping batters off balance with his 86 mph fastball, hard slider, and late moving change up. Class of 2014 C/OF/RHP Trey Turner fro Neosho continues to impress, and a pair of 2015 players, Jacob Schlesener and Clayton McGinness made a name for themselves, and are two players to watch over the next four years.

Here is a look atthe top performers from the event, along with the best of the rest. 

Top Performers:

1. Jeremy Mansur, LHP, Raymore-Peculiar, Class of 2102: Committed to Neosho CC, Mansur showed to be the most advanced and polished pitcher of the event. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound LHP had the top arm, topping out at 86 mph with arm side run and showed smooth and polished mechanics. To compliment his fastball, Mansur also showed late movement on his off speed pitches, a 75-77 slider and a 77-78 mph change up. In his live BP session, he demonstrated pinpoint control of all three pitches and striking out all four batters he faced, throwing only sixteen pitches. Look for Mansur to be one of the top pitchers in the KC area this season.

2. Trey Turner, C/OF/RHP, Neosho HS, Class of 2014: The 5-foot-8, 150-pound Turner continues to impress, now completing his third PBR showcase.  Turner is a versatile player, excelling behind the plate, on the mound, and in the outfield. On the mound, Turner comes from a high ¾ arm slot and has free and easy arm action, sitting 80-82 with a heavy fastball.  He also has fastball arm speed on a 10-to-4 breaking ball (69-71 mph) with late movement and changeup with late fade (71-72 mph). Turner showed a firm wrist and good footwork behind the plate, recording a top pop time of 2.06. In the outfield, Turner is quick to the ball and plays through it consistently. He showed arm strength on his throws (82-84 mph) with carry. At the plate, Turner has a compact swing with good extension through contact producing line drives gap to gap.

3. Jacob Schlesener, LHP/OF Logan-Rogersville, Class of 2015: Schlesener is a LHP with a long, lean projectable 5-foot-11, 155-pound frame. He showed poise on the mound for a player of his age, impressing with a 77-78 mph fastball. Schlesener’s breaking ball (67-68 mph) had 11-to-5 movement with sharp, late break. He also threw a 71-73 mph change up, a pitch that has potential to be an out pitch with some fine tuning.  As Schlesener continues to mature, he has the ability to be an impact pitcher and one of the top players in the Class of 2015.

4. Winston Rasmussen, C, Har-Ber (AR), Class of 2013: Rasmussen is a physically strong 6-foot, 200-pound catcher who showed quick, concise footwork behind the dish.  He has a solid base and demonstrated quick, clean transfers with a pop time range of 2.07 – 2.12 and was clocked at 78 mph from the crouch.  Offensively, Rasmussen has a balanced setup and a strong lower half, using his strength to create some bat whip through the zone.  He took a short and explosive approach to the baseball and displayed good gap-to-gap power with his swing.

5. Brock Hammit, MIF, Nixa HS, Class of 2013: Hamitt is a projectable, athletically built 6-foot-2, 175-pound infielder who possesses long legs and considerable upside. Offensively, he has balanced setup and demonstrated swing looseness through the zone, with the ability to hit for power when he squares up. Hammit showed athletic feet at shortstop with good range and quickness to the ball on both his forehand and backhand side. He also posted the fasted home to first time of the event, a 4.29s.

6. Brad Archer, RHP/3B, Lebanon HS, Class of 2014: The 6-foot, 150-pound RHP showcased a feel for three pitches while operating from a high ¾ arm slot. Archer displayed a long, clean arm action with a fastball that sat 80-83 mph and displayed sink down in the zone. His sharp curveball is a legitimate out pitch and showed 12-to-6 shape with tight spin.  He also commanded a changeup that exhibited some sink and was located down in the zone. Offensively, he displayed a level, well-balanced swing that consistently produced line drives gap to gap.

7. Tyler Wilt, LHP/OF, Savannah HS, Class of 2013: Wilt impressed with his two-way abilities, as he showed well in all facets of the game.  Standing at 6-foot, 195-pounds, Wilt features a strong, athletic frame.   On the mound, the left handed throwing Wilt comes from an over the top arm slot.  He has a smooth, clean delivery and good feel for all three of his pitches, all for strikes. His fastball sat at 80-81 mph and showed some run and sink.  His curveball had an 11 to 5 shape with sharp, late break to it. His arsenal also included a 72-73 mph changeup that had some arm side run. Offensively, he has a balanced setup, takes an economical approach to the baseball and is able to generate bat speed.  He uses his strong lower half and generates good torque; the ball jumps off his bat with good backspin carry.  Defensively, Wilt moves well to the ball in the outfield, and was clocked at 83-84 mph on his throws.

8. Dylan Riley, RHP/3B, Holden HS, Class of 2013: Riley is a 6-foot, 175-pound RHP/3B.  On the mound, Riley uses a quick delivery and comes from a high ¾ arm angle throwing a heavy 73-77 mph fastball. He also throws a late moving, sharp 10-to-4 breaking ball and a split finger fastball, a pitch that when he stayed on top of had good late action. With a bit more rhythm and body control on the mound, Riley has the tools and ability to be a more consistent pitcher.   In the field, Riley showed good instincts to the ball and a quick arm with accurate throws across the diamond. At the plate, he has an explosive lower half and violent swing that generated some bat whip as he drove the ball with authority to both power alleys.

9. Tyler Locker, INF, Raytown HS, Class of 2013: Lockler is a 6-foot, 200-pound infielder who showed athletic movements to the ball, a quick transfer, and accurate throws.   Offensively, the left handed hitting Locker showed some bat speed and a short path to the ball while staying balanced throughout his swing, producing consistent line drives.

10. Clayton McGinness, OF/RHP, Savannah HS, Class of 2015: McGinnis is a two way player with a projectable 5-foot-11, 155-pound frame.  McGinness showed clean mechanics on the mound with a good downhill action and consistent strikes with his 78-81 mph fastball.  McGinness also showed good command of his off speed pitches, a 10-to-4 breaking ball (65-68 mph) with late movement and a 64-67 mph changeup with arm side run.  Expect to see a spike in velocity as McGinness continues to progress as a pitcher.

Nick Jones, RHP,  Park Hills HS, Class of 2013: Jones is a 5-foot-9, 140-pound RHP who showed the ability to keep the ball down in the zone with all three pitches. The submarine pitcher showed a 71-72 mph fastball with late arm side run. Jones also showed a 65-68 mph breaking ball and a 65-67 mph change up. During the live batting practice session, Jones managed to keep hitters off balance with his ability to hit his spots and change speeds.

Roman Viar, INF, Lee’s Summit, Class of 2013: Viar is an athletic 5-foot-9, 190-pound infielder.  Viar showed to be a confident fielder, taking aggressive angles to the ball and quick, soft hands delivering accurate throws across the diamond (65-68 mph). At the plate, Viar uses a strong back side and keeps his hands inside the ball spraying the ball to all fields.

Devin Stubbings, LHP, Raymore-Peculiar, Class of 2013: Stubbings is a LHP who showed consistent arm speed and extension on all three pitches. His fastball sat 74-75 mph with some arm side run.  He also threw a 70-71 breaking ball and 71-73 mph change up with some late movement.

William Baker, OF, Lee’s Summit West, Class of 2015: Baker showed well as an outfielder, taking a good angles and playing through ball, showing some arm strength (75 mph) with accurate throws. The 5-foot-8, 140-pound Baker showed some pop in his bat, using strong hands and a short compact swing with glimpses of power to all fields. Baker showed some speed, posting a 4.37 home to first.

James Brownsberger, C, Holden HS, Class of 2014: Brownsberger is an athletic 5-foot-7, 155-pound infielder.  Brownsberger was quick to find and move to the ball, and showed confident fielding ability. Brownsberger also showed a quick glove to hand transfer, and accurate throws.  At the plate, he has quick hands and a short, compact swing, working the middle of the field.

Matthew Zembraski, C, Warrensburg, Class of 2014: Zembraski showed a firm wrist and solid blocking skills behind the plate. He fired a top pop time of 2.42. At the plate, the switch hitting catcher showed smooth mechanics from each side of the plate. As a lefty, Zembraski showed more consistency as a hitter, driving the ball gap to gap. From the right side, Zembraski showed more explosiveness and hit for some power.

Josh Leinhardt, C, Lee’s Summit, Class of 2013: Leinhardt is a 5-foot-11, 180-pound catcher with an athletic build. Behind the plate, Leinhardt showed a firm wrist and good framing ability, as well as the ability effectively block the ball.  At the plate, Leinhardt has a compact swing and shows the ability to hit the ball to the opposite field.

Jake Scribner, CI, Raymore-Peculiar, Class of 2012: Scribner is a physically strong corner infielder who showed power at the plate. Using his strong lower half and quick hands, Scribner created barrel whip through the zone, driving the ball gap to gap with backspin carry. In the field, Scribner showed a good approach to the ball with confident hands and some range.

Zane Wilt, INF, Savannah HS, Class of 2013: Wilt is an athletically built 6-goot-1, 185-pound infielder who showed well at the plate.  He has a slightly open setup and short stride to the ball.  He is able to create solid bat whip through the zone with a level, line drive swing working the middle part of the field. In the field, Wilt showed good instincts to the ball. He showed some speed, with a 4.38s home to first.
