Last weekend, players and scouts descended on Liberty University for the annual Commonwealth Games. Four teams assembled, representing four regions of Virginia, the North, West, Central, and East, and these teams competed to capture the 2019 Gold Medal while showcasing their skills to the coaches and scouts in attendance. The North was the defending Gold Medal squad and won in 2016 as well, with the Central having won in 2017. The North and Central squared off in Sunday's Gold Medal game, with the North winning the 2019 Gold Medal.

The teams had a workout for scouts on Friday during the day, then played a round robin Friday night and Saturday to determine the seeding for Sunday's medal round. Our staff was on site Friday for the workout and first pair of games, here is some quick scouting notes from Friday:

North Team

-South Lakes 2020 SS Ryan Dooley (VMI) had a very good batting practice, working gap to gap with extra base power and a short swing. He continued it in the game going 2-4 with a single to center and left-center, kids a ballplayer.

-Westfield 2021 OF/LHP Nick Lottchea was also good during BP and continued it in the game, going 2-2 with a single to center and a mashed double to left-center. Uses whole field and barrels the ball in just about every at-bat.

-Centreville 2020 OF Thomas Trinca (George Mason) had one of the best BP rounds of the day and carried it into the evening's game where he was 3-4 with two triples and a home run off the scoreboard in left center. His lone out was a well hit fly out. Power to all fields is beginning to manifest and his speed is a tool as well.

-Page County 2020 C Tristan Gordon mashed a few balls during the game. Very strong with some power present.

-South County 2020 CIF/RHP Tre Williams is a really twitchy and hit three balls hard in the game, including a double to right center that was 89 off the bat.

-Centreville 2020 RHP/CIF Eric Bohenek was 82-85, touch 86. Curveball was 73-75 and change-up was 74-75. Did a good job battling back from a tough first inning to put together five strong innings.

-Bishop O'Connell 2020 SS/RHP Eddie Eisert (NC State) was 82-88 on the mound, with it being more 86-88 when ahead in the count and 82-84 when behind. Also looked good in BP and had a loud lineout in the game.

-Kettle Run 2020 RHP Joe Vogatsky (James Madison) was 86-89 in one inning of work, with about half of his fastballs being 89. Curveball was sharp and got swing and misses at 72-76.
