College Prospects Showcase (Session Two): Two-Way Player Analysis

Session Two of the Preseason College Prospects Showcases took place Saturday, January 17th at Keystone State Baseball Academy in Manheim, PA. Over the next three days we will take a look at all prospects in attendance. Today we begin by analyzing the position players in attendance.

Top Prospect

Conestoga junior RHP/SS Tim Miller impressed in all facets of the game to walk away with top prospect honors. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound righty sat 84-86 while touching 87 mph out of a high 3/4 arm slot. Miller displayed a fluid, athletic delivery with even tempo. His two-seam fastball showed heavy run and sink while as did his 76 mph changeup delivered at fastball arm speed. Miller also flashed a 73 mph curveball with slider action that he repeatedly threw for strikes down in the zone.

Tim MillerMiller also displayed the potential to be a highly recruited middle infielder. The right-handed hitter displayed good balance with quick hands and solid extension to his swing. Miller starts from a slightly open stance with a leg lift stride. He showed the ability to routinely barrel the baseball with authority to all fields.

Miller ran a solid 7.02 60-yard dash and showed well above average arm strength across the diamond (88 mph). The junior showed the ability to play through the baseball and a quick release with a soft glove hand.

Two-way players (in alphabetical order)


Dustin Babaie, 2B/RHP, Susquehannock HS (PA), Class of 2016
Babaie is a 5-foot-6, 160-pound right-handed hitter that starts from a square stance and a high hands load. The junior utilized no stride and a flat bat path to consistently barrel the baseball to all fields with a bat exit velocity of 82 mph. Babaie's foot speed (7.54) and arm strength (74 mph) will likely keep him at second base at the next level. He flashed athletic actions in his defensive workout with the ability to throw from several arm angles. Babaie sat 73-74 from a 3/4 arm slot while touching 78 mph one time. He also showcased a 68 mph changeup at similar arm speed and a 63 mph curveball with 11/5 rotation.

Brendan Kreag, OF/LHP, Souderton HS (PA), Class of 2017
Kreag ran a 6.95 60-yard dash and displayed an accurate 76 mph arm from the outfield. The 6-foot, 180-pound left-handed hitter barreled the baseball routinely from a square, slightly crouched stance. While he has a tendency to try to work around the baseball, he showed good pop to the pull side and a short swing path on balls on the inner half. Kreag sat 75-76 with cut action to his fastball out of a high 3/4 action during his bullpen session. The lefty also showcased a 66 mph changeup with some fade and a tight breaking 65 mph curveball with 1/7 rotation.

Jonathan Pence, RHP/1B, Blackhawk HS (PA), Class of 2017
Pence showed above average potential as a two-way prospect with a projectable 6-foot-2, 200-pound frame. The righty sat 82-84 from a 3/4 arm slot with a very quick arm action. His 77 mph changeup is thrown at near fastball arm speed and shows both fade and sink. Pence also commanded a 67 mph curveball with 11/5 rotation. The sophomore showed capable actions around the bag at first base with an accurate 83 mph arm across the diamond. The right-handed hitter showed extremely quick hands from a balanced, square stance. Pence flashed an 82 mph bat exit velocity and ran a 7.35 60-yard dash.
