College Prospects Showcase - Session One Two-Way Player Analysis

The 1st Session of the Preseason College Prospects Showcases took place Saturday, January 10th at Keystone State Baseball Academy in Manheim, PA with Session Two scheduled for January 17. Yesterday we broke down the position players in attendance.  Today we we analyze the two-way prospects that participated.

Top Prospect

Bayley JamanisLancaster Catholic junior 3B/RHP Bayley Jamanis flashed the top arm strength among position players on the day at 85 mph across the diamond. The 5-foot-11, 180-pound two-way prospect displayed solid footwork and fluid actions while making plays at both third base and shortstop. The right-handed hitter repeatedly barreled the baseball in batting practice from a slightly open stance while routinely staying inside the baseball. Jamanis' 88 mph bat exit velocity also was tops at the event.

The two-way prospect, currently ranked No. 72 in the PA Class of 2016, sat 82-84 during a solid bullpen session in which he pounded the strike zone with three pitches. Jamanis utilizes a simple deliver with a quick arm out of a high 3/4 arm slot. His changeup displayed some cut action at 71 mph while his 75 mph curveball showed good bite and 11/5 rotation.

Two-Way players (in alphabetical order)


Cameron Barto, SS/OF/RHP, Manheim Township HS (PA), Class of 2019
Barto is a 5-foot-9, 140-pound 8th grader that showcased a well-rounded skill set. He showed good feet (7.20 60-yard dash), and developing arm strength from the outfield (76 mph) and middle infield (71 mph). Barto impressed at the plate flashing switch-hitting abilities with similar swings from both sides of the plate. From the right side Barto displayed an open stance with a flat barrel path. He stays inside the baseball well and showed the ability to consistently square the baseball. His swing is a bit longer from the non-dominant left side but Barto showed good rhythm and the ability to barrel the baseball routinely. The righty sat 71-72 from the mound with a long, loose arm action. His 64 mph changeup is thrown at near fastball arm speed while his 60 mph curveball is still a pitch in development.

Joseph Mione, RHP/OF, Bishop McDevitt HS (PA), Class of 2016
Mione sat 81-82 from a high 3/4 arm slot with some hip coil to his delivery and arm side run to his fastball. The 5-foot-11, 175-pound junior flashed a quick arm and biting 11/5 action to his 67 mph curveball. Mione also showed a feel for his 71 mph slider and a 71 mph changeup that at times had significant fade. Mione showcased good feet (7.18) and an accurate 84 mph arm from the outfield. The right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance with a high hands load. He strides closed and displayed a flat bat path with good extension. Mione barreled the baseball frequently in his round of batting practice with a bat exit velocity of 83 mph.

Ben Werkheiser, C/RHP, Germantown Academy (PA), Class of 2017
Werkheiser flashed a quick transition with pop times of 2.07-2.15 on throws of 75 mph from the crouch. The sophomore is solidly built at 5-foot-10, 190-pounds. The right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and utilizes a lift and replace stride to initiate his hips. Werkheiser creates solid barrel whip (88 mph bat exit velocity), but doesn't stay on plane very long in the hitting zone. The righty sat 80-82 with a long arm, high 3/4 delivery during a solid bullpen session. Werkheiser has some hip coil to his delivery and flashed a 75 mph curveball with 11/5 rotation that has a chance to be a solid second pitch. His 76 mph changeup is thrown at near fastball arm speed and showed some arm side run.
