It’s been a busy four-plus months since the last update to the Class of 2018 rankings. As we have worked our way through the winter showcase schedule, both on the state and national levels, as well as halfway through the spring high school season, more light has been shed on this talented and deep class. There has been plenty of shakeup throughout the list, which has now been expanded to 90 players. Here are some highlights in the update...
+ LSU recruit, RHP Landon Marceaux (Destrehan) retains his No. 1 slot; and Mississippi recruit, C CJ Willis (Ruston) remains at No. 2.
+ A big riser in the recently updated 2018 Overall Rankings, OF Basiel Williams (Ponchatula) climbs to No. 3 in Louisiana’s 2018 class. Williams got off to a fast start this spring, and has seen his recruiting stock heat up as of late.
+ John Curtis high school, who is currently No. 3 in the PBR Power 25, certainly has one of the best 2018 classes in the state. The Patriots land seven players on the list, including three in the top ten. LSU recruit, RHP Will Ripoll (No. 5), Tulane recruit, 1B Cade Beloso (No. 6), and Tulane recruit, OF Logan Stevens (No. 7) are at the top for the talented Patriots. Beloso has put up eye-opening numbers thus far this spring, currently hitting .490 with 15 doubles, 4 home runs, 22 RBI, while only striking out twice in 72 plate appearances. IF Jordin LaBruzza (No. 13), IF Brandon Davis (No. 29), C Jay Curtis (No. 46) and RHP Ian Landreneau (No. 71) also crack the 2018 rankings. Along with Beloso, Curtis has given the Patriots serious firepower in the heart of the order, as he has already driven in 30 runs, and hit 4 home runs.
+ SS Bryan Lawerence (Barbe) is another riser in the recently updated list, checking in at No. 23. One of the best defenders in the state already, Lawerence has added strength and size in the past few months, and has become a productive offensive piece in highly talented Barbe lineup.
+ New to the rankings is OF Lloyd Nash (St. Charles Catholic). Nash is a highly athletic left-handed hitting centerfielder, and checks in at No. 24. The Prep Baseball Report staff was on hand, as Nash faced off against RHP Blayne Enlow. Nash flashed bat speed, and a simple, direct path, collecting a hit and putting together several quality at-bats against one of the best right-handers in the country.
