CLASS A WEEK 5 POWER 5
1. Charleston Catholic
2. St. Joseph Central
3. Williamstown
4. Wheeling Central
5. Moorefield
Charleston Catholic
PBR Ranked Players:
1. Brandon Combs, 3B/RHP, #9 PBR West Virginia Class of 2018 Rankings, Transylvania recruit
Summary:
Apparently, Charleston Catholic didn't appreciate being dropped to number two last week. The Irish put together a 4-0 week including two wins over St. Joseph Central who had replaced them at number one. Offense was the name of the game in getting back on top. Jacob Hufford (9-for-14, 4 R, 8 RBI), Thomas Blaydes (7-for-13, 3 R, 3 RBI), Dominic Martin (6-for-12, 1 R, 2 RBI) and John Hufford (5-for-11, 4 R, 4 RBI) led the way.
St. Joseph Central
PBR Ranked Players:
1. Noah Beter, SS/2B, #21 PBR West Virginia Class of 2019 Rankings
2. Lenny Washington, RHP/3B, #4 PBR West Virginia Class of 2020 Rankings
Summary:
St. Joseph Central had a disappointing 0-2 week dropping two decisions to number one Charleston Catholic. An argument can be made for both Williamstown and Wheeling Central in this spot. However, based on St. Joseph's only losses on the season having come against the team above them, they tenuously stay at two. Corey Sweeney went 4-for-8, scoring once and driving in two against the solid Charleston Catholic pitching.
WILLIAMSTOWN
PBR Ranked Players:
1. Mason Adkins, 2B/OF, #12 PBR West Virginia Class of 2018 Rankings, Western Carolina recruit
Summary:
Williamstown remains at number three after a one loss week leaving their overall record at 18-3-1. Individual statistics were not available.
WHEELING CENTRAL
PBR Ranked Players:
1. Chris Furka, 3B/SS, #44 PBR West Virginia Class of 2018 Rankings, Salem International recruit
2. Bryan Courts, SS/C, #50 PBR West Virginia Class of 2018 Rankings, Wheeling Jesuit recruit
3. Sonny Peluchette, 2B/SS, #14 PBR West Virginia Class of 2020 Rankings
Summary:
Wheeling Central holds down number four with an overall 10-3-1 record. The Maroon Knights played a very competitive game in a 4-3 loss to PIAA Class A perennial contender Vincentian. Individual statistics were not available.
MOOREFIELD
PBR Ranked Players:
1. None
Summary:
Moorefield had a difficult week dropping three of five. The quality of their competition allows them to remain in our top five. Two of the losses came to AA number four Frankfort. Blake Watts led the offense going 7-for-12 and driving in seven. Garrett Haggerty was the mound winner over South Harrison pitching five innings and allowing only one earned run.
