Central Illinois Open: Top Overall Prospects

On Aug. 8, we hosted the Central Illinois Open in Normal, Ill., at The Corn Crib. There were over 70 prospects in attendance representing the middle of the state, one of whom has already committed to play at the next level, and there’s bound to be more from this group in the coming weeks and months.
Today, we’ll conclude our showcase analysis by ranking the top-five prospects from the event.
What may be the biggest takeaway from the Normal-area event is that the underclass talent, namely the 2021 prospects in attendance, really stood out. Three of the top-five prospects ranked below are sophomores, two of whom are two-way position players. Keep on reading to see how the rankings shook out. TOP-5 PROSPECTS
HOLDEN PHELPSRHP / PRAIRIE RIDGE, IL / 20206-foot-4, 185-pound, right-handed pitcher, long-limbed, projectable frame. Tall and fall style, quick side step to tall, heel lift balance point, slide step stretch, works slightly cross body to home, toe lands closed, athletic and effortless finish. Arm plays long, full, fluid arm swing, present arm strength, arm gradually speeds through ¾ window, easy effort throughout. Fastball, run with downward tilt, firm through the zone, 87-88 mph. Slider, 10/4 sweeper, flashed bite down, 71-73 mph. Changeup, sinking action, maintains arm speed, 77-79 mph. |
