DALLAS, TX - Southlake Carroll opened the third round of the Texas High School Baseball Playoffs with a win over the Allen Eagles. The Dragons offense was relentless, scoring in 5-of-7 innings, each time for multiple runs. A strong relief appearance from 2018 RHP Nicco Cole kept the Allen offense off the board for the last three frames, and sealed the 16-7 victory for Southlake.
The first seven hitters in the Carroll lineup all recorded at least one hit, 6-of-7 had two hits, and 3-of-7 had three hits. Carroll put up a four-spot in the top of the first with multiple RBI knocks from four different players. Allen’s offense was equally impressive early, answering with four runs of their own in the bottom of the second. It was a back-and-forth affair through the first four innings. 2020 Cole Latos led the Eagles with a 3-for-4 performance, two double, and two RBI. With Southlake holding onto 10-7 lead, and the Allen offense surging, Nicco Cole entered the game for Carroll. The right-hander tossed 4.2 innings of relief, allowing only one run on five hits, no walks, and six strikeouts. Southlake put the nail in the coffin with three runs in the fifth, and three more in the seventh. Ross Cadena and Cole Johnson each homered in the last frame, both shots were no-doubters. Final score, Carroll 16, Allen 7. These two teams face off again in game two of the series at 8:00 PM tonight at Dallas Baptist.
