Cabot Wins 7A State Championship

2017 was a historical year for the Cabot Panthers as they won their first State Championship. They finished the season with a record of 25-7, a conference record of 13-1.

They rolled through the state tournament defeating Catholic High School 3-1 and Bryant High School 14-4 in 5 innings of play. Those two wins advanced them to the state finals where they defeated Har-ber High School 2-1.

2017 RHP Logan Gilbertson, was given the opportunity to start the state championship game and the senior did not disappoint. Gilbertson pitched 7 innings allowing just 4 hits allowing just 1 earned run, while striking out 3. He had success due to his advanced pitch ability locating all three pitches consistently. His fastball worked up to 88 mph, he kept hitters off balance, commanding his off-speed pitches in plus counts, consistently locating his changeup in 2-0 and 3-1 counts.

Offensively it was a tough go for the Panthers who mustered just 3 hits, scoring two runs, and making that enough by playing defense. 2018 CIF Dillon Thomas had a big night going 2 for 3 including a 2 out RBI double in the first. 2017 INF Bobby Duncan scored in the 2^nd on a passed ball after he reached on a single, to push the lead to 2-0, which ended up being enough.

2019 RHP Blake Adams, from Har-ber was impressive in a loss, allowing just 1 earned run on 3 hits while striking out 5. He commanded the strike zone with a fastball that worked 87-89 mph and flashed 91 multiple times throughout the contest. Adams is a projectable arm, to watch moving forward.
