SANFORD-- In the second game we covered in the Central Florida Baseball League, Seminole High School hosted Montverde Academy in a double header last Thursday. Both teams featured multiple talented players who have the ability to play at the next level. Here are a few reports from players who stood out from this contest:
Seminole
Scott Fickas SS/RHP, Seminole HS 2017
6-foot-3, 160-pounds with a tall, lean, projectable, and athletic frame. In the field he shows good footwork and soft hands with the arm strength to stay at shortstop. At the plate he features a slightly open stance and has good rhythm. Fickas gets a separation for his load and possesses a short, quick, and smooth swing. He will definitely be able to play at the next level.
Chris Rodriguez OF/RHP, Seminole HS 2017
6-foot-1, 160-pounds with a lean, athletic, and projectable body. From the mound he has a long, high ¾ arm action and everything stays in line. His fastball sits in the 78-81 mph range and his slider is tight and has a late break at 70-72 mph. Chris should gain more velocity with added weight and strength.
Zach Wattman C, Seminole HS 2016
5-foot-11, 165-pounds with a compact and athletic frame with strength. Behind the plate he blocks and deadens the ball well and bounces around with good energy. He sticks pitches and appears to have good control over the infield. Wattman has a short, over the top arm action with plenty of arm strength to catch at the next level. His quick transfer and release produce a consistent 2.0 pop time. He definitely has the ability to play at the next level.
Montverde Academy
Livingston Morris OF, Montverde Academy 2016
6-foot-3, 225-pounds with a strong, physical, and muscular frame. At the plate has features an open stance, gets a separation for his load, and has good bat speed. He has some length and loft in his swing which allows him to get the ball in the air. The ball jumps off his bat. Morris has the size and power to play at the next level.
Ryan Williams RHP, Montverde Academy 2016
6-foot-1, 175-pounds with a lean, athletic, and projectable frame with strength. He possesses long and loose arms and long legs. Ryan has a loose, high ¾ arm slot and a high leg kick in his delivery. He could simplify his windup and he can sometimes throw across his body but he still throws a good amount of strikes. 82-85 mph fastball with plenty more to come. 73-76 mph advanced changeup with the same arm speed as his fastball and late diving action. He definitely has the ability to pitch at the next level.
