HOUSTON, TX - 2018 RHP Blake Schultz, a Louisiana-Lafayette recruit, carried his Clear Springs team to victory over Deer Park on a beautiful night at Reckling Park. Schultz held a potent Deer Park offense to one hit in a complete game shutout. Schultz is the No. 66 ranked player in the Texas 2018 Class. The lone hit was a shot to left-centerfield by 2017 1B Clay Aguilar, a Houston commit. The game was filled with stars on both sides, but none shined brighter than Schultz, who mixed his pitches masterfully and elevated his game when it was on the line. Deer Park showed grit, battling to create scoring chances in both the 6th and 7th innings. But Schultz was at his best in tough situations, as his defense made three errors behind him. Offensively the Chargers had to deal with Deer Parks 2017 LHP Peyton Sherlin, a Dallas Baptist commit, who was equally impressive. Sherlin would only give up four hits and one run. 2018 CF Michael Gillaspia was the only hitter in the game to record two hits. 2017 1B/OF Drew Minter, a Houston commit, showed why he is one of the top players in the Houston area. Minter scored the game winning run in the 2nd inning after a sharp single to left. Minter's defense shined at first base where he dug out 2 errant throws for outs, and threw out the lead runner at 3rd base when Deer Park had a rally going. Final Score, Clear Springs 1, Deer Park 0.
