Big Games This Week Involving Ranked Teams
April 29, 2012
As the high school regular season winds down teams across the state are jockeying for playoff positions. Two games this week that will carry significant playoff implications will take place on the western side of the state.
On Monday, No. 14 Upper St. Clair (13-2) will be at No. 2 Bethel Park (13-2). Upper St. Clair currently leads Section 3 in the WPIAL at 8-2 with Bethel Park in 2nd place at 6-2. An Upper St. Clair win would make it virtually impossible for Bethel Park to catch them for the Section 3 championship.
A similar scenario will play out on Wednesday when No. 7 Blackhawk pays a visit to No. 3 Hopewell. Hopewell handed Blackhawk sophomore pitcher Brendan McKay the first loss of his varsity career earlier in the season in a 2-0 victory. A Blackhawk victory will even the score and leave both teams tied atop the WPIAL Section 1 standings at 9-2. A Hopewell victory could end Blackhawk's hopes of a section championship.
