2021 Spring Team Preview: Beachwood Bison
Team Name: Beachwood Bison
Head Coach: Andy Pohl
Division: III
2019 Record: 9-17
Returning Starters/Pitchers: 3/3
2021 Team Strengths:
- We are a very young and inexperienced group, graduating several multi-year varsity team starters with high baseball IQ's. We will be throwing a lot of kids into the fire so to speak before they are ready, so they will need to embrace growth mindset and realize mistakes are opportunities for learning. Thankfully, we have 3 returning pitchers with significant varsity experience, so we are hoping they can shoulder a lot of the weight until other players get their "sea legs" underneath them.
Coach Outlook: "We lost 7 one run games and 2 two run games in 2019. This program was a complete rebuild when I took over in 2018, and we have been systematically addressing our deficiencies. The fact that we were competitive in 2019 demonstrated the work we’ve put in with addressing our skills related weaknesses, and I think we have significantly decreased the talent gap that existed two years ago. We feel good about that. But we graduated a good crop of seniors in 2020, so we have to find a way to continue the momentum we started to develop in 2019 with a new group of athletes who lack varsity experience."
Top Returning Players:
- Jordan Levin, RHP, 1B, Senior
- Austin Muttillo, LHP/OF, Senior
- Drew Dubin, RHP/1B, Senior
- Brendan Malek, INF/C, Junior
