Barrington 8, Prospect 2
MT. PROSPECT, IL - The Barrington Broncos captured the Mid Suburban League Championship over the Prospect Knights, on Monday afternoon, by the score of 8-2.
The Knights took the lead early, scoring a run in the bottom of the first, but that would be short-lived. Barrington scored three runs on no hits in the top of the second. Then, in the top of the third, catcher Eric Kozlowski lifted the ball over the left field fence for a three-run home run, extending the lead to 6-1. The Broncos added a run in each of the following two innings, giving Barrington an 8-1 lead.
After a shaky first inning, Barrington left-hander Brooks Gosswein settled in, pitching scoreless frames over the next four innings. Gosswein went 5.0 innings, striking out six and allowing two hits and one run. Will Yorton recorded the final six outs, striking out four of them. Yortan and Jeff Korus led the Broncos offensively with two hits apiece.
Junior, Richie Baczek finished the game 1-for-1 with three walks and a run scored for the Knights.
