Eric Ashbrook, RHP, Mount Vernon, 2013

The 16^th rated player in the class of 2013 for the state of Ohio according to PBR is picking up a lot of momentum in the recruiting process. Eric Ashbrook, a right-handed pitcher from Mount Vernon, is hands down one of the best around.

Ashbrook attended the PBR Top Prospect Showcase in Dayton this past December.  Eric states, “The PBR Top Prospect Showcase was great. I got to see some of the top talent in the state and really see how I stack up against those guys. They also took a video of me while I was there and put it on my online profile, which was sent around to a lot of college coaches and got me a lot of exposure.”

Since attending the PBR showcase he has been contacted by the following schools: Purdue, West Virginia, Kent State, Ohio, Wright State, Bowling Green, Toledo, Georgia Tech, Tennessee Tech, UNC Charlotte, and Central Michigan.

Last spring, the 6’3 200 pound pitcher, went 2-1 with a 2.06 ERA, over 17 innings pitched, 18 K’s, 9 BB and 5 ER. With a fastball that sits at 85-88 mph, 81-83 mph change-up, 70-71 mph curveball, there is a lot to like about this future Division 1 prospect. 

The junior hopes to make his college decision this fall after his junior season at Mount Vernon and a successful summer with the Ohio Elite.  According to Ashbrook, “I'm looking for a school with a very competitive schedule that will allow me to play the highest caliber baseball possible.”

With a 3.9 GPA, Eric’s focus will also be on academics when making a college selection.  “A school with a good academic tradition is very important to me because that's something I can carry with me after I'm done playing baseball.”

Eric feels his biggest asset as a player is his ability to learn from his mistakes.  “Pitching is just as much mental as it is physical, so it's really important to learn from your mistakes and forget anything bad that may have happened. I try to think of each batter as a clean slate and play the game one pitch at a time.”
