April Player of the Month: INF Jansen Smith From Rock Bridge HS
May 8, 2013
Rock Bridge infielder Jansen Smith had a month to remember in April, leading the Rock Bridge Bruins and was a major reason for their success and steady increase in the Top 25 team rankings.
Since he was a sophomore, we have seen potential in Smith. The stocky 5-foot-9, 175-pound left handed hitter always had the tools, but struggled at times to put it all together. Finally as a senior and leader of the Bruins, Smith is showing the potential that we saw all along, and it has earned him April Player of the Month honors for April
“I can’t think of a better player to receive the player of the month than Jansen. He has put in so much work to get to this point in his career. It has been such a privilege to watch a player of his caliber fulfill all of his goals that he set out to accomplish,” said Rock Bridge Head Coach Justin Towe.
Smith has been a machine driving in runs and had a record breaking April, with 42 RBIs and setting a new single season record for RBIs, with the record breaking RBI coming on a homerun. For the month of April, Smith hit .460 with nine doubles, one triple, and two homeruns to go along with the staggering number of RBIs.
