Big 12

Danville (13-7; 5-1) blanked Champaign Central 3-0 behind Viking sophomore Mike Vascura (4-2). Vascura fired a three-hit shutout with seven strikeouts at the Maroons. Vascura helped himself with two hits and two big RBI as the Vikings stay in the Big 12 race.

Bloomington (16-5; 4-1) destroyed Decatur MacArthur 18-2 in five innings on Thursday. Purple Raider senior Jack Cerny (6-2) went the distance for the win. Purple Raider all-time hit leader senior Curtis Weise added four more to his record-breaking total and drove in three runs. Senior Kyle Johnson and junior Brandon Edwards knocked home three apiece. Edwards is hitting a robust .467 for Bloomington.

Champaign Centennial (15-6; 2-3) defeated Mattoon 2-1 on a sac-fly in the bottom of the seventh by Charger junior Drake Perat. Charger senior Zach Owens fired a four-hitter at the Green Wave (12-7; 2-1)

Big Northern East

Burlington Central (16-6; 5-1) bombed North Boone 11-1 behind a three-hitter from senior Riley Jensen (6-1).

Big Northern West

Rock Falls (20-8; 7-1) blasted Mendota 12-3 on Thursday.

Catholic League Crossovers

De La Salle (16-8; 8-4 White) blasted Hales Franciscan 10-0 in five innings on Thursday.

Central Suburban North

Glenbrook North (17-7; 6-1) blanked Maine East 10-0 in five innings as Spartan Jake DeRosse fired a no-hitter at the Demons with 10 strikeouts. EIU-bound Spartan C Jason Scholl had a big two-run triple for the CSL-North leaders.

Central Suburban South

No.14 Maine South (17-3; 7-0) slipped past Evanston 4-3 in nine innings for the second game in a row. Iowa bound C Jimmy Frankos won the game with a sac-fly in the bottom of the ninth. Hawk senior Rocky Saavedra (4-0) picked up the win on the mound.

Glenbrook South (15-5; 5-2) whipped up on Waukegan 10-3 behind a four-RBI day for Titan Zach Jones. Indiana-bound LHP Sully Stadler (6-0) picked up the win on the mound.

New Trier (13-5; 5-2) shutout No. 8 Niles West (19-4; 5-2) for the second game in a row, this time 1-0. University of Illinois-bound LHP Nick Hedge (7-0) fired a three-hitter at the Wolves with eight strikeouts.

Fox Valley Fox

Grayslake Central (16-5; 9-1) smashed Woodstock 14-4 in five innings behind red-hot Ram Kristian Meehan who plated six Ram runs and now has 30 RBI for 2012.

Fox Valley Valley

No. 20 Prairie Ridge (17-5; 9-1) blasted Dundee-Crown 13-5 behind Wolves junior Jordan Getzelman. Getzelman hammered a pair of homers for the FVC-Valley co-leaders.

Jacobs (13-9; 9-1) swept away McHenry 3-0 behind a four-hitter from Golden Eagle junior Evan Blunk (4-1). Junior Connor Conzelman hammered a big two-run shot to sink the Warriors (15-8; 7-3).

Crystal Lake South (16-7; 8-2) stopped Huntley 2-1 behind Gator senior ace Jordan Van Dyck. Van Dyck improved to 7-0 on the season with a four-hit gem against the Red Raiders. 

Interstate 8 South

No. 25 Herscher (23-4; 8-1) continued on cruise-control as the Tigers crushed Wilmington 11-1 in five innings on Thursday. NIU-bound Justin Ruckman (5-2) fired a three-hitter at the Wildcats with five strikeouts. Tiger Spike Engelman had two hits, an RBI and scored three runs for I-8 South leaders.

Interstate 8 Crossovers

Manteno (24-2; 8-2 South) defeated Sandwich 7-4 behind junior C Ryan Sample, who singled and doubled and plated a big run for the Panthers. Judson College-bound 2B Mark Reardanz had two hits and two RBI. Panther junior Nick Kirshslager chipped in with two hits and two RBI making a winner of Panther Paul Dufrain (4-1) on the mound.

NIC-10

Machesney Park Harlem (18-5; 6-0) hammered Rockford East 15-0 behind a no-hiter from Huskie junior Garrett Ralston. Senior Parker Anderson had a perfect 4-for-4 day with four RBI. Anderson now has 31 RBI for the NIC-10 co-leaders.

N. Illinois Big 12 East

Yorkville (13-9; 7-2) defeated Kaneland 4-2 behind Edwardsville-transfer Bryce Cantrall. Cantrall (2-1) allowed two runs and four hits in his solid six-inning stint to lead the Foxes back atop the NIB-12-E standings with Kaneland (14-8; 7-2).

N. Illinois Big 12 West

Ottawa (18-5; 7-1) blasted Dixon 10-2 on Thursday behind a four-hitter from Pirate senior lefty Dusty Dekreon. Dekreon struck out eight. Pirate junior CF Miguel Hermosillo tripled home a pair for the Pirates and swiped a pair of bases. Pirate junior Tabor Griglioni chipped in with a pair of hits and an RBI. Griglioni also pilfered a couple of bases for the N. Illinois Big 12-West leaders.

On Monday, April 30, the PBR’s Drake Skleba will be at King Field in Ottawa for all of the action in the N. Illinois Big 12-West showdown between the Pirates and rival La Salle-Peru.

South Seven

Mount Vernon (20-5; 7-0) blasted Marion 7-1 behind Ram senior Zack Lewis. Lewis had three hits, including his 14^th career triple, and drove in two runs for MV. The triple set a new Mount Vernon career mark for triples. Ram junior Tyler Ellis (4-2) fired a four-hitter at the Wildcats.

South Suburban Crossovers

Oak Forest (16-4; 9-2 Blue) defeated SSC-Red leader Richards 5-1. Bengal seniors Artie Johnson and George Jester drove home runs for the SCC-Blue leaders. Richards falls to (14-10; 9-2 Red).

Oak Lawn (15-7; 9-2 Red) pulled into a first-place tie in the Red with a 3-2

crossover victory over TF South. The cardiac-kid Spartans rallied for a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh to stun the visiting Rebels from Lansing. A bases-loaded walk to Spartan starting and winning pitcher, Nick Mozwecz, tied the game at 2-2. A perfectly executed suicide squeeze bunt by Brian Barnhouse plated the winner as the Spartan faithful on Southwest Highway went home happy again.

Mozwecz (5-2, 1.30 ERA) was lights-out for OLCHS. Mozwecz fanned 16 Rebel hitters as he fired a two-hitter at the Rebels. Spartan senior C Kyle Smith chipped in with two hits and an RBI and slid across home plate with the game-winning run. 

Southland

Crete-Monee (14-9; 7-1) defeated Bloom 10-4 behind Warrior Brandon Bass, who had two hits and drove in three for SC leaders

Rich Central (16-9; 6-2) slipped past Kankakee 4-3 behind Olympian senior Elijah McNutt who had two hits and three big ribbies.Olympian sophomore Dave Dugger (6-0) picked up the win on the mound for RC.

Southwest Prarie

No. 3 Plainfield North (21-1; 11-1) swept away city-rival Plainfield East 5-0 behind a two-hit shutout by Tiger junior RHP Cory Evak (6-0). Evak struck out five in his masterpiece on Thursday.Tiger senior 3B Kyle Bledsoe delivered a big two-run single for PN.

Minooka (17-8; 9-3) blanked Oswego 6-0 behind a one-hit shutout from Indian Mitch Vogrin. Vogrin struck out eight Panthers in his masterpiece on Thursday. Indian senior Carson Neushwander led the Minooka attack with a bomb and a triple and plated three Indian runs.

Southwest Suburban Blue

No. 6 Sandburg (15-4-1; 5-2) crushed Bolingbrook 10-0 in five innings behind Eagle senior Zach Reks, who drove home a pair of runs.

Southwest Suburban Red

Andrew (17-6; 7-0) survived a battle from Stagg defeating the Chargers 3-2 in eight exciting innings on Thursday. The T-Bolts won the game in the bottom of the eighth on a devastating Charger miscue.

T-bolt junior Dan Durkin had a perfect 3-for-3 day at the plate with a triple. Seniors Pat Elget and red-hot Justin Rzeszutko plated the T-Bolt runs.

6-foot-4 T-Bolt Tyler Hook (4-1) picked up the win in relief of T-Bolt starting pitcher Marcus Radz. Stagg (11-11; 4-3) was led by red-hot Mike Farnan who had three more hits.

Southwestern

No. 19 O’Fallon (16-6; 8-1) crushed winless East St. Louis 14-1 in five innings. Panther senior Sam Hopkins hit a three-run bomb and drove home a fourth run with a sac-fly for the SWC leaders.

Edwardsville (18-5; 7-2) avenged an earlier loss to Alton (16-7;6-3) by rolling past the Redbirds 7-4 on Thursday. Tiger junior Alex Pizzini tripled and singled home three runs to lead the Edwardsville attack. Jevon Boyd (2-1) picked up the win on the mound for the Tigers.

The PBR will be at Tom Pile Field in Edwardsville at 4:30 on Tuesday May 1, for the huge SWC battle between rivals No. 19 O’ Fallon and Edwardsville.

Suburban Christian Gold

Aurora Christian (19-5; 8-2) rallied past Chicago Christian 5-4 on a clutch two-run single by NIU-bound Bobby Kuntzendorf in the bottom of the sixth. Senior Josh Haugen had a big two-run double for the Eagles. Valpo-bound Jake Hansen (1-2) picked up the win on the mound with 1 2/3 scoreless innings of relief.

Upstate 8 River

St. Charles East (13-6; 10-3) smashed Streamwood 9-1 behind a three-RBI night from Fighting Saint Troy DeFillipis. Senior Jordan Hayes chipped in with a pair of RBI for the River Division leaders.

St. Charles North (13-7; 8-3) defeated Geneva 5-3 behind EIU-bound North Star RHP Jake Johansmeier. Geneva falls to (14-5; 9-4).

Upstate 8 Valley

Lake Park (13-9; 9-5) surprised Neuqua Valley 2-1 on Thursday. Neuqua Valley (15-8; 11-3) trails behind Valley leader South Elgin (14-3; 11-2) by a half-game in the Valley race.

Nonconference

No. 9 Mundelein (20-3) beat Lakes in a North Suburban Conference crossover on Thursday. Senior Matt Langlie improved to 6-1 with a three-hitter.

No.11 Benton (22-3) beat Johnston City 10-5 behind a five-RBI performance from Ranger Ethan Hughes, who went deep for the third and fourth times this season. Bradley University-bound SS Ty Leffler went deep for the 15^th time this season. Senior Mason Childers improved to 4-0 on the mound and helped himself with two hits and three RBI.

No. 12 Normal West (18-4) defeated Rantoul 5-1 as Garrett Cook once again came up with another clutch two-run, two-out hit to give the ‘Cats a 3-1 lead they would not relinquish. Juniors Matt James (2 RBI) and Alex Jefferson drove in the other NW runs. Nick Barnhill picked up the win relief for the Big 12 leaders.

No. 16 Lincoln-Way North (19-5) smashed Reavis 12-1 in five innings on Thursday. Phoenix senior Alex Lesiak (3-2) fired a two-hiter at the Rams. Senior Dom Hartman continued his torrid hitting with another three-RBI night. Junior Josh Reid had a day with two triples and a double and driving in five Phoenix runs.

Fading No. 23 Lyons Township (14-7-1) was hammered by Downers Grove South 7-1 in a WSC crossover affair on Thursday. DGS junior Brian Glowicki (5-2) fired a five-hitter at the struggling Lions.

Homewood-Flossmoor (16-5) smashed Beecher 13-0 in five innings on Thursday. Viking junior Jake Klemp tripled with a pair of teammates aboard for H-F.

Chicago Agricultural Science (17-6-1) pounded Bowen 15-3 in five innings behind Cyclone Ryan Kull. Kull drove in six Cyclone runs with a double triple and a long bomb. Cyclone Kevin Stonewall (1-0) picked up the win for the Ernie Banks Division-leaders.
