Zach Barnhart, who’s one of the top Class of 2014 middle infielders in Illinois, has verbally committed to the University of Illinois. The 5-foot-10, 150-pounder from Springfield HS established himself as one of the premier middle infielders at the Prep Baseball Report Midwest Future Games in August. What Barnhart lacks in physicality, he makes up with his athleticism and hard play. Barnhart is a grinder-type who makes every play at either middle infield position. He also opened eyes when he nearly beat out a tapper back to the pitcher, getting down the line in 4.04 seconds from the right side. He was consistently clocked between 4.04-4.15 down the line. Barnhart also ran a 6.82 60 and was clocked at 82 mph from the infield.
Matt Vogt, a left-handed hitting C/1B from Libertyville HS, has committed to Minnesota-Deluth.
Middle Tennessee State landed a pair of JUCO standouts at Lincoln Land College when it received commitments from INF Jake Ingold (Glenwood HS) and Ryan Aper (Lincoln Community HS). Ingold was a PBR first-team All-State third baseman as a senior when he helped lead the Titans to a Class 3A state championship.
