Analyzing the Top Hitters at the Eastern PA Future Prospects Instructional Showcase

Some of the top Class of 2016, 2017 and 2018 players in Pennsylvania had an opportunity to showcase their abilities on back to back days this past week. Today we will breakdown the top hitting prospects from the Eastern PA Future Prospects Showcase on December 28.

BaughmanDrew Baughman, C/3B, Class of 2018, Cumberland Valley HS
Baughman is a 6-foot, 165-pound prospect who is currently in 7th grade. He had a memorable 2012 baseball season, hitting a total of 52 home runs. Baughman put on an offensive show from both sides of the plate. He showcased the top bat exit speed of the day with an impressive 89 mph. From the right side of the plate Baughman showed excellent rhythm and extension that allowed him to drive baseballs repeatedly. From the left side of the plate his swing was a bit longer and less developed, but he showed the potential to be a legitimate power threat from both sides in the future. As he continues to grow and mature, Baughman has the potential to be a highly recruited player in the Class of 2018.

NadeauMason Nadeau, OF/SS, Class of 2016, North Penn HS
Nadeau is a 5-foot-9, 145-pound left-handed hitter who showed an advanced approach to hitting for a player his age. He does an excellent job of staying behind the baseball and driving the ball to all fields. Nadeau showcased great rhythm and extension to his swing along with extremely quick hands. The North Penn HS freshman is a sub-7.0 runner who has the athleticism to impact the Knights line-up in 2013.

Shultz is a 5-foot-10, 185-pound prospect with a solid, athletic frame. He showed promise as a hitter and pitcher. Offensively, he used a very strong lower half to consistently drive baseballs to all fields with a bat exit speed of 73 mph. Shultz has an explosive lower half and displayed legitimate power potential.

Nate Fassnacht, SS/2B, Class of 2016, Ephrata HS
Fassnacht is a 5-foot-5, 130-pound prospect who showed considerable improvement as a switch hitter since we last saw him in June. From the right side of the plate he showed excellent rhythm to his swing with a strong lower half. Fassnacht is still developing his skills as a left-handed hitter, but displayed the potential to be a legitimate switch hitter moving forward.

Jeremy Sultzaberger, C/SS, Class of 2015, Susquenita HS
Sultzaberger is a 6-foot, 195-pound catcher from Susquenita HS. He was the starting catcher for Susquenita as a freshman in 2012 and helped lead the Harrisburg Junior Division team to the RBI World Series. Sultzaberger showed well behind the plate and offensively. The left-handed hitter used a 74 mph bat exit speed to drive baseballs to the pull side. With work, he could develop additional pop in his swing.

Joseph Kroeger, C/OF, Class of 2016, Central York HS
Kroeger is a 5-foot-11, 180-pound prospect who was impressive at the plate. The right handed hitter has a short swing path that produced consistent line drives. Kroeger displayed power potential that will be increased as he develops more extension in his swing. He used a 75 mph bat exit speed during one of the most solid rounds of batting practice on the day.

Justin Williams, 3B/RHP, Class of 2018, Cumberland Valley HS
Williams is a 5-foot-5, 125-pound prospect who is a power hitter in a middle infielder's body. The current 7th grader showed well offensively with a bat exit speed of 71 mph. He used an explosive lower half and good extension to drive baseballs repeatedly during his round of batting practice. Williams is a player to watch in the Class of 2018.

Alex Myers, RHP/2B, Class of 2016, Central York HS
Myers is a 5-foot-11, 135-pound prospect who showed potential as a hitter and as a pitcher. He displayed a 71 mph bat exit speed that he used to consistently square baseballs to all fields. Myers has a short stroke from the right side with a strong lower half. He will need to work as a left handed hitter to further develop his skills from that side of the plate.

Max Mattei, OF/RHP, Class of 2016, Downingtown East HS
Mattei is a 5-foot-8, 120-pound prospect who showed well offensively. He utilized a 67 mph bat exit speed along with a strong lower half to consistently square the baseball during his round of batting practice. He should continue to develop as a hitter as he adds to his athletic frame.

Cristian Viera, SS/2B, Class of 2018, JP McKaskey HS
Viera is a 5-foot-6, 145-pound athletic switch hitter who showcased a 74 mph bat exit speed. He showed similar abilities from both sides of the plate with the potential to hit for power. As he develops physically and becomes more efficient with his lower half he should add additional power. He is a prospect to watch in the Class of 2018.

Matt Kerber, 2B/OF, Class of 2015, Tulpehocken HS
Kerber is a 5-foot-11, 140-pound prospect who showed a short swing with good extension that produced consistent line drives to all fields. He displayed a 73 mph bat exit speed and the ability to consistently square the baseball.

Mason McKinley, C/OF, Class of 2016, Garden Spot HS
McKinley is a 5-foot-7, 140-pound right-handed hitter who displayed a short line drive stroke that allowed him to consistently square the baseball with a 70 mph bat exit speed. McKinley does a good job of staying behind the baseball and using his lower half to generate barrel whip.

Connor Bair, 3B/OF, Class of 2016, Manheim Township HS
Bair is a 5-foot-8, 145-pound prospect who used a short, compact swing to produce consistent line drives with a bat exit speed of 68 mph. The freshman showed the potential to be a quality high school hitter who should develop more power as his frame fills out.

Radames Roubert, 2B/3B, Class of 2017, JP McKaskey HS
Roubert is a 5-foot-5, 110-pound right-handed hitter who used a 56 mph bat exit speed to spray line drives to all fields. He has good extension to his swing and should develop as a hitter as he matures physically.
