Analyzing the Outfielders at the Western PA Open ID Showcase (Session 2)

Several outfielders had impressive showing at the Western PA Open ID Showcase (Session 2) at the Family First Sports Dome in Erie, PA. Sophomore Tyler Wansack emerged as a potential prospect to watch in the Class of 2015 as a result of his performance. Following is an analysis of the outfielders in attendance at the event.

Tyler Wansack, OF, Sharpsville HS, Class of 2015
Wansack was one of the top underclassmen at the event. He displayed his athleticism by running the 2nd fastest 60-yard dash of the day at 7.10. Wansack showed athletic actions and good carry on throws of 77 mph from the outfield. Offensively the 6-foot, 180-pound right-handed hitter used a 79 mph bat exit velocity and a short stroke to consistently square the baseball to all fields.

Jesse Staudt, OF, Cochranton HS, Class of 2014
Staudt ran a 7.21 60-yard dash, threw 75 mph from the outfield and displayed a 78 mph bat exit velocity. Staudt showed athletic actions and good carry on his throws from the outfield. Offensively, Staudt used an open stance and an explosive lower half to generate barrel whip. He displayed the ability to square the baseball consistently and some power potential to the pull side.

Jordan Yates, OF/2B, Beaver Area HS, Class of 2014
Yates is an athletic 5-foot-10, 155-pound prospect who ran the top 60-yard dash of the day at 7.06. Yates showed fluid actions and a 75 mph throwing arm from the outfield. Offensively, Yates used a square stance and stayed behind the baseball effectively creating barrel whip with a bat exit velocity of 79 mph. He consistently lined baseballs to all fields in a solid round of batting practice.

Justin Strubel, OF/RHP, Girard HS, Class of 2013
Strubel ran a 7.56 60-yard dash, threw 73 mph from the outfield and showcased a 74 mph bat exit velocity. The 5-foot-11, 140-pound prospect played through the baseball in the outfield and showed good accuracy on throws from the outfield.
