Analyzing the Outfielders at the Louisville Prospect ID Showcase

The Louisville Prospect ID Showcase, held on January 21 at Mockingbird Sports/Louisville Baseball Center, saw some solid outfield prospects. Today we take a look at the top outfielders from the event, as well as all of the outfielders in attendance. Stay tuned as we analyze our last position group from the event, the corner infielders, tomorrow.
Top Outfield Performances
Chase Patton, LHP/OF, Class of 2014, Bullitt East HS
6-foot, 185-pound prospect shows athletic outfield actions, plays through the ball, 80 mph arm strength with carry. Offensively, open stance, squares front side, long stride, good rhythm in swing, good use of lower half, line drive swing plane, registered 80 mph tee exit velocity, ran 5.18 40 yard dash.
Justin Coffey, OF, Class of 2015, Eastern HS
5-foot-11, 180-pound, left-handed hitting prospect with athletic frame, 77 mph arm strength, will gain more arm strength with better throwing mechanics and use of body, needs to be more aggressive playing through the ball. Offensively, hits from open stance, squares front side, lower half works, chest level hand trigger, flat bat path, shows the ability to hit line drives the other way, registered 84 mph tee exit velocity, ran event best 4.81 40 yard dash. Coffey is an interesting prospect to follow and has the potential to develop into a very good outfield prospect in the class of 2015 with some refinement of his skills.
Nick King, OF/3B, Class of 2014, Dixie Heights HS
6-foot-2, 175-pound prospect with athletic build, plays through the ball, athletic actions, 83 mph arm strength with carry, plays 3B as well, 78 mph infield arm strength. At the plate, slightly open stance, big leg kick trigger, short path to the ball, moderate bat speed, registered 82 mph tee exit velocity, ran 5.25 40 yard dash.
Best of the Rest (Alphabetical Order)
Austin Combs, RHP/OF, Clas of 2014, Corbin Independent HS
6-foot, 195-pound prospect with strong build, plays through the ball, 75 mph arm strength. Offensively, hits from balanced setup, short stride, arm bars in load, raw strength in swing, needs more lower half torque, registered 87 mph tee exit velocity, ran 5.20 40 yard dash.
Eric Gibson, OF, Class of 2014, Iroquois HS
5-foot-9, 164-pound OF with athletic build, 66 mph arm strength, doesn’t play through the ball. At the plate, wide base, short stride, no load, chest level hand trigger, flat bat path, registered 81 mph tee exit velocity, ran 5.22 40 yard dash.
Kole Gibson, OF, Class of 2016, Henderson County HS
5-foot-8, 165-pound, young prospect, needs to play through the ball more aggressively, 68 mph arm strength. At the plate, balanced setup, drops hands in load, slight uphill path to the ball, registered 68 mph tee exit velocity, ran 5.00 40 yard dash.
Tyler Horsley, RHP/OF, Class of 2016, Ballard HS
6-foot, 152-pound, young prospect, needs to be more aggressive playing through the ball, 79 mph arm strength with more to come. Offensively, wide base, toe tap trigger, no stride, needs to get more lower half torque in swing, registered 74 mph exit velocity, ran 5.19 40 yard dash, good, young prospect with raw skills that will continue to develop.
Shawn Lile, OF/RHP, Class of 2015, John Hardin HS
5-foot-10, 185-pound OF, 70 mph arm strength with short arm action. At the plate, uses balanced setup, short stride, needs more lower half torque in swing, loads early, registered 78 mph tee exit velocity, ran 5.21 40 yard dash.
