Today we begin to take an in depth look at each player present at the Alabama Fall Invite by checking in on the pitcher only's and catchers that took part in the event. Many of the position players also hopped on the mound and threw an inning during gameplay as their pitching writeup will be included in their positional analysis. Today we look at the 3 pitcher only's and 4 catchers that were at the event. 

 

Pitcher Only's

Jacob Page (2023, RHP/3B, Glenwood) 

5-foot-10, 185-pound athletic frame. Advanced on the mound, where he showed consistent arm speed, he had a long arm action and a high ¾ arm angle. Feel type pitcher and shows easy effort. Displayed an athletic finish Produced a fastball that came in at 77-78 mph with a max of 79 mph; had sinking action and control low in the zone with heavy movement. His tight curveball (62-64) shows very consistent control. Has arm side control and fading action on his changeup (67-68). The changeup really plays well off of the fastball. 

Colton Willmon (2023, Helena, OF/RHP) 

5-foot-11, 155-pound mature frame. Projectable on the mound, has good arm speed and a ¾ arm angle. Up-tempo type pitcher and shows easy effort. Showed consistent balance point. Has an athletic finish. Changeup (74-75 mph).Threw his fastball 78-80 mph; has cutting action and control in the zone. His 11/5 curveball (70-71) shows very consistent command and some action. The fastball shows some arm side sink and really gets "in" on RH hitters. 

Jake Majors (2022, RHP, Spain Park) 

6-foot-3, 200-pound physical frame. Projectable on the mound, has above average arm speed and throws from a high ¾ arm angle. Drop-and-drive type pitcher who shows high effort. Shows an athletic finish. Threw his fastball 82-83 mph; had sinking action and command low in the zone with heavy movement. Had a tight curveball (67-68) that showed swing and miss action and consistent control. He shows fading action on his changeup (69-70). Like the upside of this '22 grad, creates great tempo on the mound and forced a lot of groundballs in his stint on the mound. 

Catchers

Zach Gast (2023, C/2B, Oak Mountain) 

5-foot-8, 145-pound lean frame. Clocked a 60 time of 7.93 at the event. Started in a quiet stance with a controlled compact load, then used a short stride before his swing. Had simple swing plane and had level finish. Found some barrels in his rounds. Gap to gap approach. Gast clocked an exit velocity of 77 mph. He produced a position velocity of 69 mph during throw downs; had a fluid exchange, consistent hands and rhythmic footwork. Had athletic setup. Behind the plate, had a pop time of 2.25-2.42. Showed an-over-the-top slot and a short arm action. Young catcher that shows some solid projection over the next few years. 

Dylan Overby (2021, C/OF, Hewitt Trussville) 

5-foot-11, 165-pound proportional frame. In the 60-yard dash, his time was 7.22. Began in a balanced stance with a controlled load, then used a short stride to initiate his swing. Bat speed is efficient, has rotational swing plane and good extension on his finish. He found some barrels with some loud contact. Line drive approach. the right-handed hitter's 93 mph exit velocity showed his ability to drive the ball with power. His best throw downs of the day reached a max velocity of 71 mph; has rhythmic feet , a natural exchange and soft hands. Uses some flexibility. While catching, he had a pop time of 2.09-2.16. Consistent accuracy to the bases, used a high ¾ slot and a consistent arm action. 

Bailey Mott (2021, RHP/OF/C, Daphne) 

6-foot, 165-pound athletic frame. In the box, Mott recorded an exit velocity of 87 mph. Began in an open stance with a compact load, then used a controlled stride before his swing. Bat speed is explosive, has upward swing plane and high finish. Found multiple barrels with a lot of loud contact. Gap to gap approach. While catching, consistently had pop times of 2.16-2.23, above average his best position velocity in the outfield was registered at 84 mph; shows rhythmic footwork and a natural exchange. He recorded a position velocity of 73 mph during throw downs; has sure hands, a fluid exchange and smooth feet. Quiet setup with some flexibility. Showed a high ¾ slot with a short arm action. During the event, recorded a 60 time of 7.46. On the mound, has a ¾ arm angle with quick arm speed. Up-tempo type pitcher who shows easy effort. Athletic balance point. Lands square with an upright finish. Produced a fastball that came in at 80-81 mph and topped out at 82 mph; has late action and glove side command. Has a 11/5 curveball (67-68) that shows swing and miss action and low in the zone command. Versatile player that had a hard hit single in gameplay. 

Luke Hasty (2021, C/OF, Smiths Station) 

6-foot, 190-pound physical frame. In the 60-yard dash, he clocked a time of 7.07. Starts in an open stance with a compact load, then uses a controlled stride to start his swing. Had explosive bat speed, upward swing plane and good extension on his finish. Through the round he found multiple barrels with loud contact. Pull side approach. the right-handed hitter displayed an exit velocity of 90 mph, showing his strength and power ability. Best position velocity throwing to second was registered at 73 mph; showed a quick exchange, sure hands and athletic feet. Calm setup with tons of flexibility. While catching, had quick feet and transfers on his throw downs, recording a 1.96-2.02 pop time. Consistent accuracy to the bag, used a short arm action with a high ¾ slot. Physical frame with a lot to like in the uncommitted catcher.
