7-4A District Tournament
Game 1
Nashville vs Fountain Lake
Nashville defeated Fountain Lake 11-1 in 5 innings, to punch their ticket to the regional tournament next vs the 8-4A District.
Nashville received a solid 2018 RHP Tyler Hanson. Hanson threw 5 innings with 9 strike outs, allowing just 2 hits, and walking just 1. The 1 Fountain Lake run was unearned on a throwing error in the 2nd inning.
Offensively the Scrappers were paced by 2017 MIF Zach Jamison who finished the 3 for 3 with 3 singles, 3 runs scored and drew a walk. Nashville’s offensive was very opportunistic taking advantage of 8 mistakes handed out by Fountain Lake, between walks, errors and hit by pitches.
Hanson looked like a true No.1 pounding the strike zone consistently. His fastball worked 78-81 mph with arm side, he complimented his fastball with his curveball thrown 69-71 mph with 11/5 shape and gradual break.
2018 RHP Montana Carden took the loss for Fountain Lake. He showed an advanced feel to pitch locating three pitches consistently. His fastball worked 77-80 mph curveball was thrown 67-68 mph with 11/5 action with gradual break. He threw his changeup 68-70 mph with fastball arm speed.
Game 2
Robinson vs Malvern
Malvern defeated Robinson 14-13 in 8 innings of play in a back and forth offensive explosion.
Malvern trailed by 2 runs headed to the bottom of the 7th and 8th innings, both innings they battled back and took advantage of some Robinson’s mistakes. The Leopards picked up timely hits from 2019 OF Darion Weaver as he hits a single in the 7th to tie up the game and a single in the 8th to walk it off and punch their ticket to the South Region next week.
Malvern was led by 2018 INF/RHP Demias Jimerson in all facets of the game. Offensively Jimerson was 3 for 4 with a home run a double 2 RBIs a run scored and drew a walk. On the mound he took a no decision but was highly effective, pitching 5 innings scattering 8 hits striking out 10 and allowing just 2 earned runs.
2017 RHP Dalton Bray picked up the win for Malvern with 3 innings pitched, allowing 3 hits, 2 earned runs while striking out 4.
Robinson impressed offensively banging out 11 hits. They were paced by 2017 RHP/C Austin Kelly and 2020 INF/OF/RHP Luke Pectol. This dynamic duo reached base reached base 10 times, scored 4 runs and had 6 RBIs. Kelly reached on 3 HBP, a walk and a 2 RBI Single. Pectol impressed again showing advanced bat speed and a feel for the barrel. He was he pounded out 4 hits including a 2B and 4 RBIs.
Malvern advances to play Nashville in the 10:00 AM Game today in the district tournament semifinal.
Game 3
Arkadelphia vs Mena
Arkadelphia defeated Mena 18-2 in 5 innings, to advance the Badgers to the South Regional next week. The tradition continues for the Badgers as they have been in contention for a district and regional championship for the past 5 years.
This year most considered a rebuilding year, and they are back in the mix again in 2017.
Versus Mena they picked up a strong performance all the way around dominating in all phases of the game. They pounded out 13 hits to score 18 runs in 4 at bats for their team. 5 different players had multiple hits showing the depth of their offensive ability.
Arkadelphia advanced to play in the 12:30 game vs the winner of Ashdwon vs Bauxite.
Game 4
Bauxite vs Ashdown
Ashdown defeated Bauxite 5-0 behind a monster day from 2017 RHP/INF Tajhnick Bishop.
Bishop pitched a complete game shutout, dominating the contest, picking up big strike outs in tough spots. His fastball worked 82-85 mph with late cut action, which he located down in the strike zone on a consistent bases. He complimented his fastball with a sharp slider thrown 71-73 mph.
Bishop lead the offensive assault in the 5th inning as well when he launched a hanging breaking ball over the left field wall for a 3 run home run, which would have been enough for the victory. The Panthers took advantage of a few Bauxite mistakes to push the lead to 5-0 after 3 innings.
After the big 3rd inning Bauxite challenged in the 5th and 7th and were turned away with a big pitch by Bishop to work his way around all issues.
Overall Ashdown impressed again with advanced athletes all over the field, and Boyd looked to be able to give them a chance against anyone they play.
They will play Arkadelphia today at 12:30. This has been a heated match up over the last few years as they have met in Regional finals, and district tournament over the last few seasons.
