5A Final 8 Roundup

The weather cleared up and the snow melted and we had baseball. The 5A final 8 got under way yesterday from Metro State and All City Stadium, here is a look at action from both sites.
5A Final 8 Roundup:
10:00 AM Games
Cherry Creek 4 Legacy 2
The Bruins kicked off the final 8 round with 6 hitters in their line up each collecting 1 hit. Cody Schultz led the way going 1-3 with 1 run, 2 RBI and 1 homerun. Sam Colehower went 5 strong innings allowing 2 hits, 2 runs and striking out 3 before giving way to Jake Lawrence who closed out the last 2 innings allowing 0 hits, 0 runs and striking out 3.
Broomfield 5 Legend 2
The Eagles found a way to shut down a hot legend team. James Notary was great on the mound going 6.1 innings, scattering 4 hits and allowing 2 runs all while striking out 11. Mason Speirs Broomfield an offensive lift going 1-3 with 1 run, 2 RBI and 1 homerun.

Mountain Vista 6 Dakota Ridge 2
The Golden Eagles continue to play great baseball at a perfect time of the year. Sam Ireland led Vista with a 3-3 day at the plate.
Rocky Mountain 3 Rock Canyon 2
In a game that lived up to the pitching billing, the Lobos get the best of Rock Canyon behind an amazing game from John Sorensen. On the mound he went 6.2 innings giving up 5 hits, 1 ER and collected 6 strike outs. At the plate he helped his own cause be going 2-3 with 1 run, 2 RBI and 1 homerun. Matt Givin opposed Sorensen on the mound and went 6 strong innings allowing 6 hits, 2 ER and collected 8 strikeouts.
3:00 Games
Mountain Vista 6 Broomfield 4
In a game that waited until the 4th innings to see any runs, the Golden Eagles make their way to the undefeated side of the bracket taking out Broomfield along the way. Grant Magill broke up Blake Rohm’s no hitter in the 4th with a 2 run bomb. He finished the day 1-3 with 2 runs and 2 RBI. Sam Ireland and Cole Blatchford added key doubles late in the game. Jack Liffrig gave up 12 hits, but pitched out of trouble all day. He finished giving up 3 ER and collecting 2 K’s.
Rocky Mountain 7 Cherry Creek 6
A classis between to storied programs sees the Lobos advance to the undefeated side of the bracket. Brady Morris who was 2-2 with 3 runs and 2 RBI hit a key 2 run homerun to give Rocky the momentum. Tyler Hyland added a 1-3 day with 1 run and 2 RBI. Tanner O’Tremba led the Bruins going 3-3 with 2 runs, 1 RBI and a triple.
