4A District Tournaments

As the season starts winding down, we take a look at the district tournaments that begin this week. District tournaments are for schools in the 4A- 1A classifications. It is up to each district if they play a district tournament or take the seeding’s earned from regular season play.

4A- 1 District Tournament	At Huntsville HS

Team to Beat: Shiloh Christian won the regular season title out-right, and with 2015 RHP Jake Riendl and 2016 MIF/RHP Luke Bandy they are the easy pick to sweep through the district tournament.

Upset Alert: Prairie Grove has a young but talented roster, and Coach Mitch Cameron has led the Tigers to success over the past few years. Watch for Prairie Grove to challenge Pea Ridge in the semifinals. Pea Ridge has had a good year playing a tough schedule including a win over 7A West member Springdale HS.

Team to Beat: Stuttgart; won the regular season title taking care of business against conference opponents. The Ricebirds have been led by 2015 C Jacob Clawson one of the few contributors left from their 2013 run to the state finals

Upset Alert: Lonoke; The Jackrabbits have several talented position players that could swing their way to winning a district tournament title. 2015 INF Nick Graves along with 2017 OF/INF Casey Martin, 2017 OF Haven Hunter provide a potent offense. If 2015 RHP Cody Martin and 2015 RHP Christian James can keep them close they may score enough to win. Newport is a team on the outside looking in, don’t be surprised if they pull off an upset and grab a regional tournament bid.

This district does not play a district tournament. The seeding for regional is determined by regular season play. Pocahontas clinched first place yesterday with a sweep over Harrisburg HS in a double header. The seeding for regional is : No.1 Pocahontas, No. 2 Gosnell, No. 3 Brookland and No. 4 Trumann. This district matches up with 4A-2 for the Regional Tournament.

Team to Beat: Ozark; Ozark won the regular season with a record of 16-5. They have had success due to a strong pitching staff. The Hillbillies pitching staff has an ERA of 1.43 striking out 111 batters and only giving out 61 free passes. Offensively they have been led by Jaron Harris who is hitting .365 with 18 RBIS and 2 HRs.

Upset Alert: Clinton; Clinton is led by 2015 INF Fielder Dufrene. Dufrene is a good all-around baseball player that is talented at several aspects of the game. Dover; even though Dover finished in the bottom half of the league don’t be surprised if they challenge teams in the tournament. The Pirates have a one of the top power hitters in the state with 2016 OF Luke Price.

Team to Beat: Arkadelphia, the Badgers won the state title in 2013, and 2014. They seem to be right on track again in 2015. Led by 2016 INF Ty Kosters, they went undefeated in conference play. Kosters anchors the middle of a potent offense. Defensively they are sound and deep pitching staff that goes 5 deep with guys that compete in the strike zone.

Upset Alert: Bauxite, Bauxite finished 3^rd in the regular season standings, in a one game setting they are a tough out. 2015 RHP/OF Ben Madison makes them in intriguing, he is the best pitcher in the league and is a dynamic player in the outfield and at the plate. If Madison heats up at the plate the Miners could make things interesting.

This district does not play a district tournament. Star City HS has won the conference out-right and will be the No. 1 seed. Crossett HS, Hamburg HS and Monticello HS have secured spots in the regional, but haven’t figured out in what order. They match up with District 8 in the regional round.
