Prep Baseball’s Draft HQ took the time to publish its latest Mock Draft this week, and with that, we're also updating our top-200 draft board. While Thursday's mock was an attempt to predict where the picks will land in July, the Prep Baseball Draft HQ Top-200 is our pound-for-pound rankings of these prospects as we evaluate them and project on their big league outlook.

THE STATE OF '24 CLASS

Since late January’s last Draft HQ Top-200 release, there’s been plenty of shake-up inside this uncertain 2024 draft class – although despite the sliding around, the top-10 contains many of the same names, just in a scattered order.

College baseball has featured several scorching hot starts and those starts are reflected in the movement up and down the board, as well as Thursday’s latest Mock Draft. What’s immediately apparent is the lack of prep talent inside the top-15. There’s a bunch of high school players in the same tier, spanning the ranks Nos. 20-45 or so, and it’ll take this spring to parse out which belong inside the first round, and which are more likely Day Two types.

Shooter Hunt was on the ground in Los Angeles this week for first-hand looks at some of the country’s best MLB Draft talent within its high schools ranks, and it reaffirmed the label we’ve put on Bryce Rainer (Harvard-Westlake HS, CA, 2024; Texas commit) as the top prep senior in the nation, ranked No. 4 on the Draft HQ Top-200 below.

You figured to expect rises in Arkansas LHP Hagen Smith and Wake Forest’s RHP Chase Burns, but don’t forget about RHP Trey Yesavage from East Carolina either. Yesavage’s fastball is a data darling, and he gets whiffs on it, but even more with the slider and change. He came into the spring with plenty of preseason accolades, so he’s far from an out-of-nowhere ‘riser’ on this list, but his dominance thus far – with 39 Ks in 24 innings, all while allowing just three runs on 10 hits, seven walks so far this season – has boosted him straight into the mid-first-round conversation.

Tennessee’s 3B Billy Amick is on a torrid start as a transfer in from Clemson, hitting .369 with nine homers already this spring, and he climbed into the top-15 in this update, up over 60 spots.

These three prep players were boosted up big time in this update: SS Wyatt Sanford (Independence HS, TX; Texas A&M) , OF Theo Gillen (Austin Westlake HS, TX; Texas), and LHP Johnny King (Naples HS, FL; Miami). Sanford’s trending up as one of the top prep shortstops in the nation, and at the right time, while Gillen’s been equally interesting this spring, combining his physical tools with an uptick in game power. On the mound, Florida’s King has started to amass some serious buzz as a young prep lefty who’s been up to 94 mph this spring all while wielding premium spin over a biting breaking ball.
