2024 MLB Draft: Final Mock Draft

By Draft HQ Staff

Prep Baseball’s Draft HQ is publishing its final mock draft ahead of Sunday's first round, which begins at 7 p.m. ET. We'll be producing a special edition of 'The War Room: Live', and you can find that broadcast schedule below:

  • 6:45 p.m. ET: Pre-Draft Rundown
  • Post-Round One: Rapid Reactions from Shooter & D.J.
  • Post-Draft Show: Full Breakdown of Day One; Outlook on Day Two and Day Three

Throughout this week we've been covering this upcoming Draft comprehensively, and at all angles. Though one of the toughest perspectives to analyze this Draft is from within the mock. The Cleveland Guardians are on unofficially on the clock and have been since December's lottery, though we aren't really any closer to knowing who they'll take first overall than we did then. The organization plays their cards very tightly to their chest, and without a unanimous 1:1 talent, they could go a variety of routes here that include cost-saving strategies.

Even so, the talent at the top of this year's draft pool is close enough to each other that the Guardians' draft plans might not even necessarily affect the next few teams behind them – the Reds, the Rockies, the Athletics, and the White Sox might even get their top choice at picks Nos. 2, 3, 4, and 5, depending on how things play out and how they've evaluated this group.

As turbulent as this draft cycle was, there's still a familiar collection of names at the top of this final mock draft as there was in our first December mock: Jac Caglianone, J.J. Wetherholt, Travis Bazzana, Nick Kurtz, Hagen Smith, each of whom were mocked inside the top-13 six months ago, including Caglianone at No. 1 overall. Charlie Condon erupted into a player vying for the top pick for much of this spring, it appeared, but he seems more likely to fall closer to No. 5 than become the first overall pick. A hamstring injury looked like was going to keep Wetherholt away from the very top of the first, considering how much time it cost him at West Virginia this spring, but he looked like a genuine 1:1 candidate upon his return and we also forecasted it in our last mock prior to Sunday's reveal.
