RISERS/NEWCOMERS

RHP Wylan Moss - Mater Dei (UCLA)

• Moss jumps all the way to the #22 spot in this release with the dominant numbers he put up in the Trinity League this spring where he ended up leading one of the toughest leagues in the country in ERA with a minuscule 0.78 ERA. Moss’s stuff saw considerable improvement since the summer where his FB velo has ticked up about 3-4 mph on average where he’s comfortably in the upper 80s and into the low 90s. His SL also showed improved sharpness and depth in the low 80s.  He currently stands a lean and long-limbed 6-3/175 which moves well in his clean/athletic operation with an arm that's loose and whippy to release. We are expecting him to continue to build on the success he had this spring and take into the summer.

RHP Jagger Beck - Sutter Union HS (Hawaii)

• Came across Beck in a spring game, specifically to see him and we were not disappointed. Long body at 6-foot-6, 190-lbs. Clean delivery, easy arm, feel for both the fastball and slider. Given the body and arm action, along with present stuff (FB 87-89 that day, SL 77-78, CB 73-74), it feels like the term 'projection right-hander' was MADE for Beck. There have been some sightings of him nudging over 90 mph as the spring goes along. Will look forward to seeing him at the Northern CA ProCase.

LHP Austin Steeves - Casa Grande HS

• One of the most impressive stat lines (118 K, 12 BB, 25 H, 63.1 IP) among all pitchers in Northern CA, the stuff backs up the numbers. Quick arm, 6-foot-1, 180-lbs, ultra-aggressive with the FB that gets up to 89 mph (last saw on 5/9/23) and has sat in the 86-87 range all spring, gets a lot of chases from RHH up and away while also having the ability and willingness to shove it inside. Doesn't throw many CB (70-72 mph) but in the games when he does and gives it a chance, it flashes as a legitimatly usable breaking ball with tight spin and big shape, effective vs both LHH and RHH, but particularly good left on left.

RHP Tyler LaChance - Burlingame HS

• Yet another pitcher to list here, he enters the ranking for the first time and is a strong best to continue to rise throughout the summer. Standing 6-foot-5, 178-lbs, he's also in the category listed as projectable right-hander. Outstanding finish to the delivery, loose arm, has a ceiling that very well could see him comfortably over 90s by this time next spring. In a closing role in an April game he came in to shut the door with a FB up to 89 mph (hot and lengthy through the zone) and a quick biting big CB (70-72 mph) and for good measure, showed change-up that is going to be a usable third pitch. Will see more of him at the Northern California ProCase.

RHP Miles Tenscher - Vintage HS

• Continuing the theme of Northern CA pitchers rising and appearing in the rankings, there is a twist with Tenscher. He's a sidearm/sub slot right-hander and not only does he get the sinking movement and comeback action on the FB, he's also got velocity not often seen from down low with a HS pitcher. He's been up to 86 (late April) this spring, which is up from last summer (at least 5-6 mph), sits in 83-85 mph range, and pairs the FB with a big sweeping breaking ball, call it what you like, sweeper or slider. He's an attacker, fields his position well, and is as effective in a starting role as he is as a reliever.

MIF Rolen Reyes - St. Mary's HS (Stockton)

• Talented left-handed hitters, especially middle infielders, are always desired in the game, as are younger brothers of professional players. Reyes checks both boxes. The smooth swinging junior can spray the ball around the field, displays consistent bat control and timing, with comfortability in box and relative to the bloodlines, his older brother is in AA in the Padres organization (2B Ripken Reyes). When we came across him this spring he was playing 2nd base for the St. Mary's Rams, a program that regularly develops college baseball players.
