RANKINGS RISERS/Newcomers
Peyton Rodgers, RHP/2B, Torrey Pines HS (SDSU COMMIT)
In our last two looks by our scouting staff of Rodgers, he has been utterly dominant. That 1st look was a CG shutout in the D2 regional semis against Rancho Bernardo last spring where his FB topped 89. Fast forward 9 months later and the FB has added 3 mph where he’s currently sitting 88-91 T92 and the slider is quite sharper adding about 5 mph running it up to 80 mph. There’s such an easy quickness to the arm where the delivery itself is very low effort. It’s hard to believe how much better he's gotten due to how seriously he takes football in the fall. It wouldn’t be a surprise to our staff if he turns out the best pitching season in SD this spring.
‘24 @AztecBaseball commit @PeytonRodgers22 with a dominant CG shutout (13K/1H).

Lean build. Athletic mover.
Easy quickness to the arm that works to a 3/4 slot. Compact east/west delivery.
FB w/ armside run was T92 (87-91), sharp biting slider up to 80, and showed quality CH. pic.twitter.com/c9w6vmnCuF
Talin Gardini, LHP, Patrick Henry HS
Gardini has been trending up in our most recent looks but the last start we took in of his was the best we’ve ever seen from him. It was a dominant outing where he was inducing whiff with both the CB and the FB. He’s a physically mature body that moves athletically down the mound. The arm action is more compact in the back that hides a bit and comes out to a higher slot which helps give his FB some decent carry through allowing it to get over barrels. The FB is now up to 88 and he pairs it considerably well with a slurvy 73-75 CB he is landing more consistently for strikes. There are very few better uncommitted arms out there in the ‘24 class.
Solid outing for @PBR_Uncommitted ‘24 LHP Talin Gardini.

5 innings, 2H/2R/1BB/11K
Mature/strong build with present athleticism.
Balanced delivery, compact upper 3/4 AA with FB up to 88 (84-86) that got over barrels.
Slurvy CB (73-75) located w/ ease to outer half vs. RHHs. pic.twitter.com/xkR7LUrDdS
Hank Tripaldi, SS, De La Salle HS
Not big in stature but big in presence and ability, which is often a way that DLS players can be described. He's stepped into the starting SS job this spring and also taken over the lead-off spot in the line-up. The swing is crisp and clean and he's got some thump, as evidenced by his game vs Clayton Valley when he doubled off the fence in the first AB and then homered in his second at-bat. A playmaker in the field with sure hands and high level IQ, he's got all the makings of a Division 1 middle infielder with offensive talent to contribute.
Quite a game in 2 innings for @DLSBaseball Jr SS @TripaldiHank with 2B off fence and now this in btm 3rd… #pbrbombsquad@PBR_California @ShooterHunt @PBR_Uncommitted @prepbaseball pic.twitter.com/fak78pbqpk

Austin Steeves, LHP, Casa Grande HS
Coming off a strong sophomore season as CF/LHP, hitting atop of the order, he's back in the same role as a junior and the pitching part of his profile is coming together. Quick sling shot arm action, has lean strength and body control and still some ceiling to reach. Velocity peaks at 87, has touched 88, settles in a little lower, while mixing in the tight and occasionally sharp CB more and more. He's also starting to flash effective usage of the CHG. Has ability to get inside vs RHH and to get called third strikes with the CB on his arm side due to the late bite. Still needs to develop much more as it relates to controlling the running game, which as a left-hander is significant.
Ended up a 5 IP, H, 0 BB, 14 K, outing for 2024 LHP Austin Steeves, Casa Grande (also 1-1, 2 BB, 2R) in a 9-0 win v Miramonte. FB peaked at 87, as game went along he started to get lots of chases up & running away from RHH. CB (70-72) was biting@AustinSteeves24 @PBR_California pic.twitter.com/IyDtEkDTAZ

Troy Cooper, RHP, Hart HS
Cooper has since quite the rise these last 5 months or so. The 6-2/180 RHP first got on our radar last November where he showed a live arm with a FB in the mid 80s flashing a quality CB. Fast forward about 4 months later and the mechanics are more refined/athletic, his velo has ticked up, and the CB has turned into quite the secondary offering. He has now topped 90 in a most recent look and the CB is quite the 12/6 downer that induces plenty of chase/whiff. With his rise has come significant college attention where we think he'll be taken off the uncommitted market quite soon.
Will Stickney, UTL, La Jolla Country Day
Stickney is a very intriguing player out of La Jolla Country Day. He’s an uber athletic UTL player that plays with bounce and energy on both sides of the ball. The bat talent has also shown itself going back to last spring where he hit .382 with 13XBH in 2022, had a strong offensive summer, and is off to a hot start this spring hitting .429. He has shown quick hands that deliver a direct barrel that produces plenty of line drives. This was a great get for USC and should be an interesting follow headed into the summer.
Tyson Reis, C, St. Mary's HS (Stockton)
When a left-handed hitting catcher shows up on the radar, scouts tend to pay attention and that is going to be the case for Reis as he goes through the spring season and into the summer. He checked many of the boxes at the East Bay Preseason ID, starting with being 6-foot-0, 185-lbs. He ran well enough to not make footspeed an issue (7.25) then showed the parts of his game that will have him on recruiting lists. The pop times where consistent, with three of the four coming in at 2.04-2.07 (73 mph arm). The raw arm strength can still be developed and most certainly will tick upward. Offensively he showed bat speed and strength, with his high EV of 95.7. Will look forward to seeing more of him, in particular in game action this spring and coming summer.
Vincent Van der Wel, INF/RHP, Chaminade
Our staff has seen Chaminade a couple times this past winter and early spring and Vinny has showed out with the bat in all those looks. It’s a pretty/loose LH stroke. He has a relaxed presence in the box where he’s never rushed and the bat seems to be consistently on-time. Defensively it’s a sure-handed glove that can fill in all over the infield. He also is able to run it up into the low-mid 80s on the mound. It’s just a solid overall skillset that should see its fair share of college looks the rest of this spring.
