2023 PBR All-American Game, Spotlight: Coy James
August 31, 2023
On Saturday, Sept. 23, Prep Baseball Report is hosting its inaugural High School All-American Game at American Family Field, home of the Milwaukee Brewers. The unique event will feature the nation’s top high school seniors who are set to battle against a roster of the country’s best juniors in Class of 2024 vs. Class of 2025 action, giving pro scouts a unique look at current and future draft classes.
We’ve begun to unveil the event’s participants on our social media channels, and we’ll spotlight those players more closely on our site, too, highlighting past performances and scouting reports from the live looks we’ve gathered on this gifted group throughout the years.
Next we are highlighting shortstop Coy James, a North Carolina native and a top-5 ranked player in the nation's 2025 class. The Ole Miss recruit propelled himself up our recent rankings update thanks to a phenomenal summer, as he was routinely a premier performer across the national circuit. Following strong showings at the NPI and East Coast Pro, James will look to show off his tools in Milwaukee at the inaugural PBR All-American Game.
Prep Baseball Report's VP of Scouting Shooter Hunt recently highlighted a few prominent members of the 2025 class for our recent rankings update. Here is what he had to say about James: "If we were to name an MVP of the summer, James might have garnered more votes than any player in any class. The 6-foot, 180-pound, dynamic athlete was a perpetual performer at all of his stops including kickstarting things with a brilliant performance at the National Program Invitational (NPI), at LakePoint, that saw him carry a loaded Canes National 16U squad to the event’s championship. While much of the excitement about James’ huge prospect potential revolved around his impressive athleticism, it was the incessant loud production that warrants his consideration as the #4 player in the class.
Still more, there is now even greater likelihood that he will stick on the dirt long term, although his athleticism would effortlessly sift to any spot on the diamond. Beyond all of the loud tools and twitch, James’ “it factor” allows him to separate himself from many star-studded peers on a regular basis."
